Bosch PRO SDS max-5C Spade Chisel, 80 x 400 mm, 2608690198
The Bosch PRO SDS max-5C, article number 2608690198, is a spade chisel with an SDS max shank, an overall length of 400 mm and an 80 mm cutting edge. Bosch describes it as a long-lasting chisel for demolition and renovation, designed specifically for removing mortar. It is intended for rotary hammers and breakers and, according to the manufacturer, fits all SDS max rotary hammers.
Self-sharpening blade
The spade-shaped blade is self-sharpening. According to Bosch this gives long-lasting performance when removing mortar. One chisel therefore lasts longer in the demanding demolition and renovation work the range was designed for.
Long, thin blade
The second benefit the manufacturer points out is the long and thin blade. It makes the work effective and contributes to the long life of the chisel. The 80 mm width clears a larger area per pass than the narrowest variant in the range.
Applications
Bosch recommends the PRO SDS max-5C whenever a hammer is used to remove plaster, mortar, roughcasting and concrete residue from floors as well as from concrete and brick walls. The manufacturer aims it at interior renovators who need a durable chisel for clearing mortar and plaster from walls and floors.
Sizes in the range
The PRO SDS max-5C range includes three spade chisel sizes with an SDS max shank: 50 x 350 mm (2 608 690 097), 80 x 400 mm (2 608 690 198 - this article) and 115 x 400 mm (2 608 690 199). In its variant table Bosch lists plastic packaging with a euro-hole hanger for this article.

STANLEY 1-15-122 Enclosed Grip Hacksaw, 300 mm
The STANLEY 1-15-122 is a hand hacksaw with an enclosed grip and a 300 mm blade. The manufacturer designates it an Enclosed Grip Hacksaw - with a solid steel frame and a tensioning system adjusted without tools.
Tool-free blade tensioning
The tensioning system allows quick, fine adjustment of the tension by hand. Tension decides whether the cut runs true: an under-tensioned blade bows and cuts at an angle, an over-tensioned one snaps. The manufacturer states a blade tension figure of 102 kg for this frame.
Four blade positions
The blade rotates and locks in four positions, allowing both vertical and horizontal cuts. That matters when cutting a pipe or section close to a wall, where the frame fouls and cannot pass - the blade is then turned through 90° and the frame sits out of the way.
Frame and handle
The frame is solid steel and the handle is enclosed and shatterproof - the enclosed type protects the fingers if the blade breaks during a cut. Overall dimensions of the hacksaw are 400 x 149 x 30 mm at a weight of 0.554 kg.
The blade
Supplied with a 300 mm blade, 24 TPI, 12.7 mm wide and 0.6 mm thick. 24 TPI is the standard pitch for thin-walled sections and tubing - with a coarser pitch the teeth catch between the walls and break the blade. Maximum cutting depth is 95 mm and maximum capacity 110 mm.
Applications
Used for cutting steel sections, tube, bar, bolts, threaded rod and aluminium profile, as well as plastic pipe. STANLEY lists 2 pieces in the article - the frame and a blade - on carded packaging.

Questions and Answers
What blade does it take?
The hacksaw takes standard 300 mm (12") blades. The supplied blade is 24 TPI, 12.7 mm wide and 0.6 mm thick according to the manufacturer.
Why does blade tension matter?
An under-tensioned blade bows and the cut runs off square, while an over-tensioned one snaps. The system here allows quick adjustment by hand; the manufacturer states a tension figure of 102 kg for this frame.
What are the four blade positions for?
The blade rotates and locks in four positions - for vertical and horizontal cuts. That helps when cutting close to a wall, where the frame fouls and cannot pass with the blade in its normal position.
What does 24 TPI mean?
24 teeth per inch. It is the standard pitch for thin-walled sections and tubing. With a coarser pitch the teeth catch between the two walls of a tube and the blade breaks.
How thick a material will it cut?
Maximum cutting depth is 95 mm and the manufacturer's maximum capacity figure is 110 mm. The limit comes from the clearance between the blade and the back of the frame.
Why is the handle enclosed?
An enclosed shatterproof handle protects the fingers if the blade breaks mid-cut - the commonest accident with a hand hacksaw. It also gives a steadier grip under pressure.
Does it cut plastic too?
Yes, the hacksaw is also used on plastic pipe as well as steel sections, bar, bolts and threaded rod. On plastic, keep the stroke rate down so friction does not melt the edge.

STANLEY 1-20-600 Clamping Mitre Box with Saw
The STANLEY 1-20-600 is a mitre box with a clamping system, supplied by the manufacturer together with a tenon saw. The set gives an accurate angled cut by hand - no machine, no power - and is the classic answer for skirting, moulding and thin profiles.
Angle guides
The box has guides for 90°, 45° and 22.5°, plus slots for 45° scarf cuts when joining two lengths end to end. The slots guide the saw blade over its full depth, which keeps the cut square and stops it wandering.
Cam lock clamping
The cam lock clamping system presses the workpiece against the wall of the box in one movement. That is the difference from a plain mitre box: the workpiece does not shift while sawing, the angle holds, and no third hand is required.
Construction
The box is one-piece injection moulded, so there are no joints to work loose. It has slip-resistant feet and fixing holes for bolting to a bench when fully steady work is needed. Foldable legs let the box sit flat on a table or the floor, or butt up neatly against a corner.
Storage compartments
The body carries integrated storage compartments for chocks and a pencil. It is a small but practical touch that keeps the marking pencil and the packing pieces to hand instead of on the floor before every cut.
Dimensions and contents
The box measures 495 x 200 x 105 mm, with a maximum cutting height of 108.3 mm and a weight of 1.08 kg. The material is plastic. STANLEY lists 2 pieces for this article - the mitre box and the tenon saw.

Questions and Answers
Is a saw included?
Yes. STANLEY lists two pieces for article 1-20-600 - the mitre box and a tenon saw. That is exactly what separates this article from the mitre box on its own.
What angles can be cut?
The box has guides for 90°, 45° and 22.5°, plus slots for a 45° scarf cut. The combination covers the usual angles for skirting, moulding and frames.
What is the advantage of the clamping system?
The cam lock presses the workpiece against the wall of the box in one movement. The workpiece does not shift while sawing, the angle holds, and no second person is needed to hold it.
Can the box be bolted to a bench?
Yes. The body has fixing holes for a work bench. When cutting many identical pieces, fixing it down reduces variation and speeds the work up.
What is the maximum workpiece size?
The manufacturer's stated maximum cutting height is 108.3 mm. The overall dimensions of the box are 495 x 200 x 105 mm.
Does it sit steadily on a smooth table?
The box has slip-resistant feet, and the legs fold so it can sit flat on a table or the floor, or butt up neatly against a corner.
What are the compartments for?
The integrated compartments are intended for chocks and a pencil. The point is to keep the marking pencil and packing pieces to hand between cuts.

Stanley 1-69-100 Stud Crimping Pliers for Drywall Profiles
Stanley 1-69-100 is a hand tool for permanently joining metal drywall profiles without screws or rivets. The joint is made with a single squeeze by cold-folding the sheet metal.
How the joint works
The jaws punch through both profiles and fold the cut tabs into one another, producing a cold mechanical lock. The metal is deformed rather than pierced and clamped, so the joint does not work loose under vibration, and there is no screw head protruding above the profile to stop the board sitting flat.
Why not screws
This is the main practical benefit. Self-tapping screws need separate driving, they protrude, and when boarding you have to think about where they land. Crimping is faster, needs no consumable and leaves a flat surface. Building partitions and suspended ceilings, the difference in pace shows up in the first room.
Capacity
The pliers work with sheet up to 0.8 mm per profile and U-sections up to 1.2 mm total thickness. That covers the standard CD, UD, CW and UW profiles used in drylining.
When a screw is still the better choice
Crimping is permanent, and that is an advantage until something has to come apart. For temporary structures, for alignment that may still change, and in places the jaws cannot reach - a profile pressed tight against a wall, for instance - a screw remains the only option. In practice the two methods complement each other: crimping takes the great majority of joints and screws cover the exceptions.
One-handed operation
The lever ratio is sized so that punching and folding happen one-handed with moderate effort. That matters when the other hand is holding the profile in place - which, working overhead, it almost always is. The handles carry non-slip vinyl grips with stops that keep the hand from sliding towards the jaws.
Who it is for
The tool is aimed at drylining installers building suspended ceilings and partition walls. It has a hanging ring for a belt, which is practical on a ladder or scaffold - the pliers are used every half metre of profile, and returning them to the bag each time is wasted movement.

Questions and Answers
How does the joint hold without a screw?
The jaws punch through both profiles and fold the cut tabs into each other, producing a cold mechanical lock. The joint is permanent and does not work loose under vibration, since there is no thread to undo.
What sheet thickness does it take?
Up to 0.8 mm per profile, and with U-sections the combined thickness can reach 1.2 mm. That covers the standard drylining profiles - CD, UD, CW and UW. Thicker sheet calls for a different joining method.
Why is it better than driving screws?
Three reasons: it is faster - one squeeze against driving a screw; it needs no consumable, so you do not run out of screws halfway through a floor; and it leaves a flat surface, so the board sits true with no screw head propping it up.
Can it be used one-handed?
Yes, the lever ratio is sized for exactly that. The other hand stays free to hold the profile - which, working overhead and aligning verticals, is effectively essential.
Can the joint be taken apart?
Not in any normal way - which is why it is called permanent. The tabs are folded irreversibly and separating them usually deforms the profile. In practice that means alignment must be checked before the squeeze, not after.
Does it need a consumable?
No. The joint is made from the profiles' own material - no screws, rivets or clips to buy and carry. On a larger job that is part of the saving, on top of the time.
Does it need maintenance?
Little. The joints and moving parts take a drop of machine oil now and then, and the jaws want clearing of metal swarf. The main thing is not to use the tool on material thicker than intended - that is what bends the jaws.

STANLEY 5-21-122 Surform Combination Planer File, 255 mm blade
The STANLEY 5-21-122 is a combination plane-and-file from the Surform system, with a die-cast metal body and a replaceable 255 mm blade. The manufacturer designates it a SURFORM Metal Body Combination Planer File - a tool that works both as a plane and as a file.
Two working positions
The key feature is that the blade fits in two different positions. In one the tool is worked as a plane, with a long stroke across the surface. In the other it works as a file, with a more aggressive bite. One tool therefore covers both coarse stock removal and the smoothing that follows.
The Surform blade
The blade is perforated steel, 40 mm wide and 255 mm long. The holes pass shavings up and away instead of collecting them ahead of the edge - which is why a Surform does not clog on soft materials, where an ordinary file jams after a few strokes. The blade is replaceable; STANLEY states that the article is supplied with a standard-work blade, 5-21-293. The shop stocks both suitable consumables - 5-21-293 and 5-21-299.

The body is die-cast metal and 305 mm long, with a polypropylene handle. The metal body holds the blade taut and does not flex under pressure, which is the difference from the plastic planes in the same range. Overall dimensions are 300 x 115 x 40 mm at a weight of 1.38 kg.
Applications
Used for shaping and smoothing timber, plywood, plasterboard, gypsum board, plastic and soft non-ferrous metals. Typical jobs are taking a plasterboard edge back to the line, trimming a door that binds, and smoothing a ragged sawn edge.
Note on the designation
The manufacturer's marketing name says "310 mm" and refers to the body, whose specified length is 305 mm. The 255 mm in the shop record's name is the length of the blade - both figures come from STANLEY's data, they simply measure different parts.

Questions and Answers
Which replacement blade does it take?
STANLEY states that the article is supplied with a standard-work blade, 5-21-293. The shop also stocks 5-21-299, likewise for the 21-122 plane - both are 250-255 mm long.
What does a combination planer file mean?
The blade fits in two different positions. In one the tool is worked as a plane with a long stroke, in the other as a file with a more aggressive bite. One tool covers both coarse removal and smoothing.
Why does the name say 255 mm when STANLEY's site says 310 mm?
The two figures measure different parts. 255 mm is the specified blade length, while the manufacturer's marketing name refers to the body, whose length in the same specification is 305 mm.
Does it clog on soft material?
The blade is perforated - the holes pass shavings up and away instead of collecting them ahead of the edge. That is exactly why a Surform works on plasterboard, gypsum and soft timber, where an ordinary file jams after a few strokes.
What materials does it work on?
Timber, plywood, plasterboard, gypsum board, plastic and soft non-ferrous metals. It is not intended for hardened steel or hard abrasive materials.
How does it differ from the plastic planes in the range?
The body here is die-cast metal and 305 mm long. A metal body holds the blade taut and does not flex under pressure, while the plastic models are lighter and cheaper but also more flexible.
How much does the tool weigh?
The manufacturer's stated weight is 1.38 kg, with overall dimensions of 300 x 115 x 40 mm. The handle is polypropylene.
