Bosch Professional 1600A039R3 Hacksaw, 150 mm
The Bosch 1600A039R3 is a hacksaw with a 150 mm blade from Bosch's professional hand-tool range. The manufacturer describes it as a tool for robust cutting of various materials, designed so that professionals in various trades can cut metal, hardwood and plastic with a reliable saw that lasts.
Carbon steel frame
According to Bosch the hacksaw is equipped with a strong carbon steel frame for strength, durability and resistance to impact. This is the part that takes the load when the blade is tensioned: for this article the manufacturer states a blade tension of 180 N.
150 mm bimetal blade
The blade is bimetal - according to Bosch a combination of HSS + HCS, with 24 teeth per inch (TPI) and a hardness of 62-68 HRC. The bimetal construction combines a hard cutting edge with a more flexible backing, which reduces blade breakage when working in metal.
Adjustable angle and quick blade change
The hacksaw has a mechanism for adjusting the blade's cutting angle and for changing blades easily. The same tool can therefore cut both in the normal position and with the blade turned - for cutting in a plane parallel to the workpiece.
Handle with soft-grip areas
The handle has soft-grip areas which, according to the manufacturer, help you work with less strain and with better control over the tool.
Applications
Typical applications are cutting pipes, profiles, bolts, threaded rod, rebar, hardwood and plastic - in plumbing and HVAC installation, electrical work, maintenance and repair. The 150 mm blade length determines both the maximum cutting depth and how easily the saw works in confined spaces.
Where this article sits in the Bosch range
Bosch offers the hacksaw in two sizes: the 300 mm hacksaw (1600A039R4) is the other version in the range. The part number is the reliable way to tell them apart. According to the manufacturer the article is supplied in a sleeve without any type of suspension, the pack quantity is one piece and the EAN is 4059952737218.

The 300 mm blade length determines both the maximum cutting depth and how easily the saw works in confined spaces.
Where this article sits in the Bosch range
Bosch offers the hacksaw in two sizes: the 150 mm hacksaw (1600A039R3) is the other version in the range. The part number is the reliable way to tell them apart. According to the manufacturer the article is supplied in a sleeve without any type of suspension, the pack quantity is one piece and the EAN is 4059952737225.

Questions and Answers
How long is the blade?
The blade of the 1600A039R4 is 300 mm. Bosch offers the hacksaw in two sizes, with the 150 mm hacksaw (1600A039R3) being the other version.
What blade is fitted?
A bimetal blade with 24 teeth per inch, according to Bosch a HSS + HCS combination with a hardness of 62-68 HRC. The bimetal construction tolerates bending better than a single-material hardened blade.
Can the blade be changed?
Yes. Bosch states a mechanism for changing blades easily and for adjusting the blade's cutting angle. The blade tension for this article is 1150 N.
Which materials does it cut?
The manufacturer states metal, hardwood and plastic. The hacksaw is designed for robust cutting of various materials.
What is the frame made from?
According to Bosch the frame is carbon steel for strength, durability and resistance to impact. It is the part that holds the blade tension.
What is the angle adjustment for?
It lets the blade be turned relative to the frame, so you can cut in a plane parallel to the workpiece - for example a pipe next to a wall, where the frame would otherwise foul.

TopMaster Hand Riveter, Aluminium Body, 255 mm, 491155
TopMaster 491155 is a hand riveter with an aluminium body, 255 mm long. Four interchangeable nosepieces are supplied, stored screwed onto the body of the tool itself.
What a riveter is for
A riveter makes a permanent joint between two sheets of material with no access from the far side. That is what makes it indispensable on sheet metal, guttering, ducting, aluminium window frames, body panels and signage: a bolt needs a spanner held behind, whereas a rivet is pulled entirely from the front.
How it works
The rivet goes into the hole and its mandrel stays in the nosepiece. Squeezing the handles makes the jaws pull the mandrel inwards, the rivet body swells on the far side and clamps the two sheets together. When the set tension is reached the mandrel snaps off - that is the sound that tells you the joint is made.
The four nosepieces
Every rivet diameter wants its own nosepiece. Too large and the jaws slip on the mandrel and never grip; too small and the mandrel will not enter at all. That is why the four nosepieces screw onto the body rather than living in a separate box - loose nosepieces are the first thing lost on site.
The aluminium body
The body is cast aluminium - stiff enough for the pulling forces and considerably lighter than steel. Working overhead, on a roof or up a facade, that matters: the riveter is held in one hand while the other holds the sheet.
Rivet or screw
The choice is not a matter of taste. A rivet is for a joint that will not be taken apart, is made from one side and does not shake loose - which is why it is standard on sheet metal, guttering and bodywork. A screw suits anything that must come off for maintenance, but wants access from both sides or a self-tapping thread, and needs locking where there is vibration. On thin sheet the rivet has a second advantage: it spreads the load over a larger area and does not tear the material around the hole.
The handles
The handles are long - 255 mm overall gives the leverage that heavier rivets need. A clip at the back locks them closed for the bag, so they do not spring open and snag.
