EAN 5707436069582. The colour is a function, not decoration The nine keys are powder-coated in different colours, and the size is printed on the holder below each slot. When you are working with fasteners in several sizes - typical on furniture, bicycles, machine covers and aluminium profiles - hunting for the right key disappears. Once learned, a colour is recognised from a distance and with dirty hands, which in practice beats reading a stamped size. The ball end The long arm ends in a ball point. It engages the screw socket at angles up to roughly 25-30° and lets you drive fasteners where the key cannot be brought square - behind a rib, down a recess, close to a wall. The straight end on the short arm stays for final tightening and for breaking a fastener loose: that is where the load peaks and it has to be carried by the full wall of the socket, or the hex rounds out. Long arms These are the long-arm series. The long arm not only reaches further - it is noticeably more comfortable: spinning with the long arm gives the hand a wider sweep, and tightening with the short arm turns the long one into a proper lever. The finish is nickel-plated and powder-coated, a combination that stops rust while holding the colour. The holder The set comes in a plastic holder with a slot for every size and a hanging hole. Nine metric sizes - 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 mm. That is the standard range for furniture and machine fasteners. There are no imperial sizes. What is the ball end for? It lets you drive a fastener at up to roughly 25-30° off the screw axis - behind a rib, down a recess or close to a wall, where the key cannot be brought square. Use it for spinning fasteners in and out, not for final tightening. Which end do I tighten with? The straight hex on the short arm. There the load is carried by the full wall of the socket. Tightening or breaking loose a tight fastener with the ball end puts the load on a small contact patch and rounds the socket out. Why are the keys different colours? The colour codes the size. When you are working across several sizes, the eye picks up a colour far faster than it reads a stamped number - especially in poor light and with dirty hands. The holder also prints the size in figures below each slot. What do the long arms give me? Reach to deeper-set fasteners, and more leverage. Spinning with the long arm gives the hand a wider sweep; tightening with the short arm turns the long arm into a long lever, so the same effort produces more torque. Will they rust? The surface is nickel-plated and powder-coated on top. The nickel stops corrosion and the powder coat holds the colour while adding protection. Even so, dry the keys if they have been stored in a wet bag - the coating protects the steel only while it is intact. Can they be used in a power tool? No. These are hand-held L-keys, not bits.
