HiKOKI Brad Nails 18GA, 1.2 x 20 mm, Straight, 5000 Pieces, 750672
HiKOKI 750672 are brad nails (mini brads) in 18GA, sized 1.2 x 20 mm, on a straight strip. The box holds 5000 pieces.
What 18GA means
18GA is the wire thickness - about 1.2 mm. It is the most used gauge for second fix: thin enough not to split a batten and to leave a hole that fills in one pass, thick enough to hold. Heavier 16GA holds more but leaves a visible hole; finer 23GA is almost invisible but carries no weight.
20 mm length
20 mm is the short end of the range. The rule with brads is that two thirds of the length must enter the substrate. At 20 mm that means about 7 mm of material on top - thin mouldings, drawer bottoms, cabinet backs, holding parts while the glue grabs.
Straight, not angled
The strip is straight. That matters when ordering: nailers built for straight strips will not take angled ones, or the other way round. Straight magazines are narrower and reach into corners better; angled ones hold more nails for the same magazine length.
The glued strip
The brads are glued into a strip with an adhesive that melts from the friction of firing. So strips should not be left in the sun or beside a heater - softened adhesive makes the strip flexible and it jams in the magazine.
5000 pieces
The 5000 box is standard for this gauge. On second-fix work that is the order of a whole job - the mouldings, skirting and casings of one flat rarely exceed a few thousand brads.
Compatibility
The brads fit nailers taking 18GA straight strips - the HiKOKI NT18 range and equivalent machines from other makers. Before ordering it is worth checking the machine's length range: a 15-50 mm nailer takes 20 mm, but one starting at 25 mm does not.

Questions and Answers
What does 18GA mean?
The wire thickness - about 1.2 mm. The most used gauge for second fix: it does not split a batten and leaves a hole that fills in one pass.
How many brads in the box?
5000 pieces - the standard box for this gauge.
What material thickness suits 20 mm?
The rule is two thirds of the length into the substrate. At 20 mm that means about 7 mm of material - thin mouldings, drawer bottoms, cabinet backs.
Straight or angled?
Straight. Nailers built for straight strips will not take angled ones, or the other way round.
Will they fit my nailer?
If it takes 18GA straight strips, yes. Check the length range too: a 15-50 mm nailer takes 20 mm, one starting at 25 mm does not.
Why does a strip sometimes jam?
The brads are glued into a strip with an adhesive that melts from firing friction. Keep strips out of sun and away from heaters - softened adhesive makes the strip flexible.
How do 16GA and 23GA compare?
16GA holds more but leaves a visible hole. 23GA is nearly invisible but carries no weight. 18GA is the balance.

DeWALT DT2422-QZ Carbide Reciprocating Saw Blade, 457 mm, 2 TPI
The DeWALT DT2422-QZ is a reciprocating saw blade with carbide-tipped teeth (TCT) that is 457 mm long with 2 teeth per inch. According to DeWALT's data the article is a single blade rather than a set. In its German catalogue DeWALT lists it as a carbide-tipped reciprocating blade for stone, and in its Slovak catalogue as a carbide blade for aerated concrete. The official application photo shows the blade on hollow clay blocks.
Patented tooth design
The manufacturer states a longer blade life thanks to the patented tooth design, even in demanding applications. The carbide teeth are marked on the blade itself with the letters TCT, next to the number DT2422.
Aggressive, straight cutting
The improved tooth angle gives an aggressive, faster cut. The high profile of the blade body keeps the cut smooth and straight, without drifting, even in thicker materials. That matters with a blade of this length.
Compatibility
The blade is designed for reciprocating saws - both cordless and corded. At 457 mm long it suits deep cuts in masonry materials where shorter blades do not reach.

Hawera Power Ceramics Tile Drill Bit, Ø5 mm, Hex Shank, 266444
Hawera Power Ceramics 266444 is a ceramic drill bit of Ø5 mm with a carbide tip and a 1/4 inch hex shank. It is made for ceramic tile, wall tile, porcelain stoneware and other hard ceramic materials.
Why ceramics need their own bit
The glaze on a tile is harder and more brittle than the ceramic beneath it. An ordinary masonry bit has a wide, blunt tip - it does not cut the glaze but presses until it cracks, breaking a piece out around the hole. A ceramic bit has a sharp spear point that bites into the glaze from the first moment and cuts rather than shatters.
No hammer
This is the rule broken most often: in tile you work on rotation only. Hammer action applies to the glaze exactly the load it cannot take - the result is a star-shaped crack around the hole that shows for good. If the machine has no way to switch hammering off, use an ordinary drill.
Starting the hole
A smooth glaze is slippery and the bit wanders on first contact, leaving a scratch. The two reliable methods are tape over the spot to give grip, or starting at an angle and gradually righting the drill once the point has bitten.
Cooling
Ceramic carries no heat away. Drilling dry, the tip reaches a temperature at which carbide loses its hardness within seconds. Work at low speed, with light pressure and water or a wet sponge at the spot. A bit that has turned blue no longer cuts.
The hex shank
The shank is a 1/4 inch hex - the same fitting as a screwdriver bit. That lets the drill go into a quick-change holder or straight into a driver, rather than only a chuck. At Ø5 mm that is practical: swapping between drill and bit takes one movement.
Porcelain stoneware is another matter
In porcelain stoneware the material is dense right through rather than only at the surface. Drilling is slow for the whole depth and cooling matters more still - this is the material that eats the most bits.
