The Makita DF003GZ is a cordless drill driver on the XGT 40 V max platform with a brushless motor and 180 Nm of maximum torque. The "Z" suffix means the tool ships without battery and without charger.

Three speeds rather than two

This is the main difference from an ordinary drill driver. Alongside the low and high gears the machine has a medium setting - 0 - 1800 rpm - combining torque and speed. It is precisely what two-speed machines lack, and it shows when driving long screws, where low gear is slow and high gear stalls under load. The full range is 0 - 650 / 0 - 1800 / 0 - 2400 rpm.

Electronic clutch with up to 41 settings

The clutch is electronic and the number of settings changes with the selected gear - 25 in high, 30 in medium and 41 in low. That gives far finer control than a mechanical clutch and allows repeatable driving to the same torque in soft material.

Capacity and protection

The tool drills up to 20 mm in steel and 50 mm in wood with an auger bit. The keyless chuck takes 13 mm. XPT technology protects the internals against dust and moisture when working outdoors and in dusty conditions.
