Bosch GSB 18V-25 Professional Cordless Impact Drill/Driver, Bare Tool

The Bosch GSB 18V-25 Professional is a compact cordless impact drill/driver on the Bosch Professional 18 V system. It delivers 56 Nm in hard driving (up to 60 Nm maximum torque) and weighs 1.2 kg without a battery - a combination that lets the machine be carried all day without noticing it, while still handling work that usually calls for a bigger drill.

Two gears - and why the slow one matters

The gearbox is two-speed: 0-440 and 0-1,650 rpm. The high speed is for drilling, the low one for driving. The difference is not comfort but torque: in first gear the machine has the force to drive a long screw into hard timber without stalling, and does it slowly enough to stay controllable. Speed is variable from the trigger.

Hammer action for masonry

Unlike a plain driver, the GSB has a hammer mode - the chuck adds axial blows to the rotation and the machine drills brick, aerated concrete and block. For an anchor in a wall that is the difference between a usable and a useless tool. It switches with a collar on the body.

Chuck and torque

The chuck is keyless, 1.5-13 mm - the full range, so the machine takes both a thin metal bit and a 13 mm wood bit without an adaptor. The torque limiter works through a stepped collar, so driving stops at the set force instead of shearing the screw head or punching through plasterboard.

Vibration - the figures that decide how long you work

Drilling in metal measures 1 m/sΒ² - effectively unnoticeable. Impact drilling in masonry rises to 12.8 m/sΒ², which is normal for hammer action but means continuous hammer drilling should be broken up with pauses. For driving and plain drilling this is a calm machine.

Article 0 601 9K9 300 is supplied in a cardboard box, without battery and without charger. It is intended for people already on Bosch Professional 18 V batteries, which are common to the whole blue 18 V range.

Questions and Answers

Are a battery and charger included?

No. Article 0 601 9K9 300 is the bare-tool version - the machine alone, in a cardboard box. Battery and charger are bought separately and are common to the whole Bosch Professional 18 V system.

What is the difference between GSB and GSR at Bosch?

A GSB has hammer action and drills masonry; a GSR is a drill/driver without impact. If you need an anchor in a brick or concrete wall, you want the GSB. If you work only in wood, metal and plasterboard, the hammer is a function you will not use.

What does "21/56/60 Nm" mean?

Bosch's three figures are soft driving, hard driving and maximum torque. The one that matters in practice is 56 Nm - the force on a hard joint, such as a long screw into dry hardwood. 60 Nm is the peak, not the working figure.

What is the slow gear for?

0-440 rpm is the driving gear: there the machine has all its torque and stays controllable enough not to shear the screw head. The high gear, 0-1,650 rpm, is for drilling, where speed cuts rather than torque.

Can it drill concrete?

In masonry - brick, aerated concrete, block - yes, using hammer mode. For reinforced concrete and larger holes, use an SDS rotary hammer: a percussion drill works by friction impact, which is inherently weaker.

What does it weigh and is it comfortable overhead?

1.2 kg without a battery, among the lightest in its class. With a compact 2.0 Ah pack it stays under 1.7 kg - the difference shows precisely in overhead work and in tight spaces where a bigger machine will not fit.

Which batteries fit it?

Any from the blue Bosch Professional 18 V system, from compact 2.0 Ah packs to ProCORE. More capacity extends runtime but also adds weight; for this compact drill 2.0-4.0 Ah is the sensible balance.
