DeWalt Construction Circular Saw Blade, 184 x 20 mm, 24 Teeth, DT1951-QZ

DeWalt DT1951-QZ is a circular saw blade for wood from the Construction range, 184 mm (7¼") in diameter with a 20 mm bore and 24 teeth. Maximum speed is 4,000 rpm, kerf 1.79 mm on a 1.13 mm plate.

What 24 teeth are for

24 teeth at 184 mm is the coarse, fast tooth count. Fewer teeth means more space between them, that is a larger gullet to carry the chip away. So with 24 teeth:

  • The cut is fast - the machine does not bog down even in wet or thicker timber.
  • Rip cuts (along the grain) go far more easily than with a fine-toothed blade.
  • The top edge tears - which is normal and acceptable on structural timber, scaffold boards, formwork and parts that will be covered.

If you need a clean cut on a visible face, a cabinet front or laminate, you need a 40, 48 or higher tooth blade - a different tool for a different job.

The thin kerf

Kerf is 1.79 mm on a 1.13 mm plate. A thin kerf has two consequences. The first is less work for the motor - on a cordless saw that means noticeably more cuts per battery. The second is less material turned to dust, which on expensive board is not a trivial saving.

Tooth geometry

The teeth are ATB (alternate top bevel) with a 18° rake angle. A large positive rake is what makes the blade aggressive and fast - the tooth bites the material rather than scraping it. That is exactly why this kind of blade belongs on a hand-held saw pushed forward by hand.

Compatibility

184 mm with a 20 mm bore is the standard combination for cordless circular saws, including DeWalt's 18 V and 54 V machines. The 4,000 rpm maximum matches that class exactly; a corded saw running faster should not use this blade.

Questions and Answers

Why only 24 teeth?

Because that is the coarse, fast count. Fewer teeth give a larger gullet for the chip - the machine does not bog down and rip cuts go far more easily.

Does it cut cleanly?

The top edge tears - normal for a 24-tooth blade and acceptable on scaffold, formwork and structural parts. A clean cut on a visible face or laminate needs 40, 48 or more teeth.

What does the thin kerf give you?

A 1.79 mm kerf on a 1.20 mm plate means less work for the motor - noticeably more cuts per battery on a cordless saw - and less material lost as dust.

Which machine is it for?

Cordless circular saws. 184 mm with a 20 mm bore is the standard on DeWalt's 18 V and 54 V machines.

What is the maximum speed?

4,000 rpm - printed on the blade itself. Check the machine's rating plate that its speed does not exceed it.

What does an 18° rake angle mean?

A large positive rake makes the blade aggressive and fast - the tooth bites the material rather than scraping it. Exactly what a hand-pushed saw needs.

Can it cut board with nails?

Better not. The teeth are carbide tipped - long lasting in wood, but they chip on metal rather than simply going blunt.
