Bosch EXPERT Wood Circular Saw Blade 165 x 20 mm, 48 Teeth, 2608902218

Bosch EXPERT Wood (article number 2 608 902 218) is a carbide-tipped circular saw blade for wood, 165 mm in diameter with a 20 mm bore and 48 teeth. The kerf is 1.8 mm over a 1.3 mm plate and maximum speed is 11,500 rpm. The blade is intended for hand-held and plunge saws.

The standard 165 mm blade

At 165 mm with a 20 mm bore this is the standard choice for a mid-range hand-held circular saw. The kerf is 1.8 mm - heavier than the cordless variants and therefore more resistant to side load. If you cut long edges along a guide rail, or work with a mains machine, the thicker plate holds its line more steadily.

48 teeth - for a clean cut

At 165 mm, 48 teeth falls in the range for a clean crosscut. Blades with fewer teeth cut faster but leave a coarser edge and suit rough breakdown work; blades with more give an even smoother cut but heat up in thicker material. Forty-eight is the balance at which one blade does both jobs decently.

Geometry and carbide

The teeth use an alternate top bevel (ATB): each successive tooth is ground the opposite way and severs the fibres from the side rather than pushing them forward. That is what protects the underside of the workpiece from splintering. The hook angle is 10Β° and maximum speed reaches 11,500 rpm - the highest in this group of blades. The tips are tungsten carbide, which holds a keen edge many times longer than hardened steel and tolerates higher temperatures without softening.

Materials

The blade cuts softwood and hardwood as well as boards - chipboard, plywood, MDF and laminated panels. On laminate, backing under the workpiece matters especially, because the surface chips far more readily than solid timber.

Mounting and speed

Confirm your machine's arbor is 20 mm - any other size needs a reducing ring, not a blade forced onto the spindle. Machine speed must not exceed 11,500 rpm. Match the direction of rotation to the arrow on the blade as well - fitted backwards, a blade does not cut but crushes and overheats.

Getting a clean cut

Use backing under the workpiece: a sacrificial board or a zero-clearance insert. With nothing supporting the fibres below, they tear free no matter how sharp the blade. Feed steadily - too slow and the teeth heat up and burn the cut, too fast and the tips are overloaded. Remove resin with a dedicated cleaner or degreaser, never with an abrasive, which damages the coating and dulls the cutting edge.

Questions and Answers

Will it fit my machine?

The blade is 165 mm with a 20 mm bore. Any other arbor size needs a reducing ring. Check that your machine does not exceed 11,500 rpm, and match the direction of rotation to the arrow on the blade.

What work suits 48 teeth?

Clean crosscutting. At 165 mm, fewer teeth cut faster but leave a coarser edge and suit rough breakdown work; more teeth give a smoother cut but heat up in thicker material.

What does ATB mean?

Alternate Top Bevel - each successive tooth is bevelled the opposite way. The point severs fibres from the side rather than pushing them forward, protecting the underside of the workpiece from splintering. It is the standard geometry for crosscutting wood.

Why are two thicknesses quoted?

1.8 mm is the kerf, set by the carbide tips, and 1.3 mm is the thickness of the blade plate. The plate is thinner so it does not rub the walls of the cut - meaning less heat and less load on the motor.

Does it cut chipboard, MDF and laminate?

Yes - the blade is rated for softwood and hardwood and for boards. On laminate, backing under the workpiece matters especially, because the surface chips far more readily than solid timber.

Why is the cut coming out burnt?

Usually resin build-up on the blade or too slow a feed - both increase friction. Clean the blade with a dedicated cleaner or degreaser, never with an abrasive. Burning is also a sign the blade has gone blunt.

Can the blade be resharpened?

Yes - carbide blades can be resharpened by a specialist many times over, at considerably less than the cost of a new blade. What matters is that the sharpening machine preserves the original tooth angles.
