Bosch 2608522548 is an impact bit in PZ2, 150 mm long, 1 piece per pack,, from the PRO Impact range. The shank is an impact-rated 1/4" hex.

The PZ2 recess

PZ2 is the most-used Pozidriv size. Pozidriv looks like a cross head but carries four extra smaller ribs between the main arms. They increase contact area and stop the bit camming out the way Phillips does. That is why PZ2 is the standard for timber and furniture screws in Europe.

Up to 50 times more robust

Bosch states up to 50 times the durability of its standard 2607001528 Extra Hard bit. It comes from:

• Heat-treated modified steel - resistant to high torque instead of twisting permanently.
• An extended torsion zone - a narrowed section of the shank that absorbs the impact pulse before it reaches the tip.

An impact driver delivers torque in blows, not smoothly. Without a torsion zone every blow goes straight into the tip; with one, the shank takes the energy by twisting elastically. That is why ordinary bits break in an impact driver within hours while impact-rated ones last months.

The 150 mm length

150 mm is the longest in the usual range. It replaces a holder plus extension when only one recess is needed: the screw is deep in a bore, between sections or behind an obstruction. The trade-off is stability - at that length any tilt of the machine is multiplied, so it must be held strictly on the screw axis.

Magnetic tip and colour coding

The tip is magnetic, with a black phosphate coating - the screw stays on the bit while you place it one-handed. The bits are colour coded, so you find the size in the box without reading labels.

When a long PZ2 bit is indispensable

Timber and furniture screws in Europe are almost entirely Pozidriv, and it is exactly there that the need for length appears. The classic case is assembling a timber structure: the screw goes through a thick member and its head ends up 8-10 centimetres in from the surface. The second is fixing through a cabinet or box, where the machine cannot get close. In both, the alternative is a holder plus extension - but for a single recess a long bit is more stable: there is no intermediate joint to develop play.
