Bosch 2608522527 is a set of 5 double-ended impact bits from the PRO Impact range, 55 mm long. Each bit carries PH2 on one end and R2 (Robertson square) on the other. The shank is an impact-rated 1/4" hex.

What P2R2 means

The designation describes the two ends: P2 = Phillips 2 - the classic cross recess - and R2 = Robertson 2, a square recess. Robertson is the North American standard and turns up in Europe mainly on imported deck and timber screws, on furniture fittings from American makers and in some fixing systems. A double-ended bit covers both without changing accessories - you just flip it.

Up to 50 times more robust

Bosch states up to 50 times the durability of its standard 2607001528 Extra Hard bit. The difference comes from two things:

• Heat-treated modified steel - resistant to high torque instead of twisting permanently.
• An extended torsion zone - a narrowed section of the shank that absorbs the impact pulse before it reaches the tip. An impact driver delivers torque in blows; without a torsion zone every blow goes straight into the tip and eventually snaps it.

Magnetic tip

The tip is magnetic, with a black phosphate coating. The magnet holds the screw while you place it one-handed - working at height or in a tight spot, that often decides whether the job is possible at all. The phosphate finish cuts glare and helps the surface hold lubricant.

Colour coding and shank

The bits are colour coded, so you find the size you need without reading it off. The shank is an impact-rated 1/4" hex - it works in an impact driver and in an ordinary drill driver alike.

When bits break - and how to stop it

A bit is a consumable, but most breakages come not from wear but from three specific mistakes. The first is misalignment: if the driver is not square to the screw axis, the angled load concentrates in one corner of the tip. The second is a worn recess - in a screw whose head is already rounded the bit spins in the void, heats up and wears out within minutes. The third is running the impact on too long after the screw has seated - from that point every further blow only fatigues the bit without doing work.

The practical rule is simple: press along the axis and release the trigger the moment the head seats. Follow it and one bit outlasts the pack's rating several times over.
