Bosch Pencil Lead Refills Multicolor 2.8 mm, 1600 A03 AL5

The Bosch 1600 A03 AL5 replacement leads are 2.8 mm in diameter and 120 mm long. The pack holds six leads in three colours - 2 HB (grey), 2 red and 2 yellow. The colour is practical rather than decorative: grey graphite disappears on dark OSB or wet concrete while yellow and red stay legible, and it lets the different lines of one set of marks - centre, cut, waste - be told apart by colour.

Compatibility

2.8 mm is the lead size Bosch uses in its mechanical construction pencils - including the deep hole marker pencil 1 600 A03 B64. The diameter and length are standard for this class of pencil, so the leads also load into other makes of pencil of the same calibre.

Why 2.8 mm

Thin office leads (0.5 and 0.7 mm) snap at once on concrete, render or sawn timber. A 2.8 mm lead takes the pressure of a rough surface, and the point is restored with the sharpener built into the cap of the pencil.

Storage

The leads come in a clear tube with a cap that protects them from snapping in a pocket or a tool bag. The tube also stores the remaining leads once the pencil has been loaded.
