TopMaster 225107 is a set of six screwdrivers - three Phillips (PH) and three slotted (SL), including one stubby of each kind. The shafts are chrome vanadium steel and the handles are two-component with a hanging hole.

What is in the set

The six drivers cover the usual sizes in a household and fitting kit. There is a long and a medium Phillips, a long and a medium slotted, plus one stubby Phillips and one fine slotted. The stubby is for work inside a cabinet, behind a panel or in a junction box, where a long driver will not fit. The fine slotted one handles terminals and small screws.

Chrome vanadium steel

The shaft is chrome vanadium - an alloy in which vanadium makes the steel tougher and chromium keeps corrosion off. In practice that means the tip does not round over after the first dozen screws, and the driver leaves no burrs in the screw head to fight with on the way out.

The handles

The handles are two-component - a hard core with a soft non-slip overmould. The soft material sits where thumb and forefinger press while turning, which lets torque go in without the hand sliding. The ribs at the back are for pushing with the palm when driving into hard material.

The hanging hole

Every handle has a hole in the end. On a pegboard wall that keeps the set tidy and visible; in a bag the hole takes a cord or a carabiner so the drivers do not scatter.

How not to chew up a screw head

The commonest reason a screw becomes impossible to remove is not rust but the wrong tip size. A PH1 driver in a PH2 head spins free and eats out the four wings from the inside within two or three turns. The right approach is a tip that seats fully and without play, a driver held on the screw's axis rather than at an angle, and forward pressure at least equal to the twist. A set with several sizes exists for exactly that reason - so there is a proper tip for every screw.

Who it suits

This is the basic set - for the house, for the car, for a fitter's first bag. It does not replace precision or insulated VDE drivers, but it covers everything that turns up on furniture, small appliances, brackets and covers.
