Stanley Snap-Off Blades, 18 x 100 x 0.5 mm, 10 Pieces

Stanley 1-11-301 are replacement snap-off blades measuring 18 x 100 x 0.5 mm. The pack holds 10 pieces, each in its own plastic dispenser.

The dispenser

Every blade travels in its own clear tube. That is not surplus packaging: a loose blade in a bag or a trouser pocket is the main cause of cuts while reaching for something else. From the dispenser the blade is pushed straight into the knife without touching the cutting edge.

18 mm - the construction width

18 mm is the standard for site work. The blade is thicker and stiffer than a 9 mm one and takes the pressure needed for plasterboard, insulation board, bitumen membrane, carpet and sheeting. Under pressure it does not wander sideways, which keeps the cut straight along its whole length.

0.5 mm thickness

0.5 mm means the blade is stiff enough not to chatter in the holder and still thin enough not to tear the material ahead of it. Thicker blades cut more roughly; thinner ones break across rather than snapping on the score line.

The segments

The blade is segmented - when it dulls, snap off the leading section and a fresh edge appears. A 100 mm blade gives eight working segments, so a pack of 10 blades is in practice about 80 fresh edges.

Snapping safely

Break the segment in the knife's snapper or with pliers - never with fingers and never against the edge of a bench. The broken piece is small, sharp and it flies: it is the main cause of eye injuries with a snap-off knife. So work in glasses, and put the broken pieces into a closed container rather than on the floor.

The blades fit any 18 mm snap-off knife - a universal size regardless of brand.
