Pica Pocket 505 is a pencil holster and sharpener in one. The manufacturer describes it as an extremely robust holder that fits all shapes of thick wooden pencils. Thanks to the integrated clip almost any wooden pencil stays safe and ready to hand in a trouser pocket - right down to the last stub. Article 505 is the holster itself, without a pencil.

A robust holster for thick wooden pencils

The holster is 195 mm long and, according to the manufacturer, extremely robust. It takes all thick wooden pencils - with an oval, flat oval, Black Edge, triangular or hexagonal cross-section - of any length. The built-in clamping function fixes the pencil in the holster, and the clip with extra reinforcement gives a permanent hold on a pocket. The pencil can be used right down to the smallest stub.

Carbon steel blade with a safety bar

A carbon steel blade is built into the holster, which the manufacturer describes as sharp as a razor. Next to it sits a safety bar: much like a potato peeler it limits the cutting depth, so sharpening is quick and precise and the fingers are protected from injury. The pencil is sharpened with the same tool it is carried in.

The pencil is always at hand

According to the manufacturer the clamping function keeps the wooden pencil always at hand: attention stays on the job, and the pencil is found without having to look for it. Pica lists the Pocket in its Innovative Line, alongside the Dry, Fine Dry and BIG Dry automatic pencils and the Ink and BIG Ink markers.

Which pencils to use

The pencil for the holster is chosen freely to suit the job, and the lead depends on the pencil used - the manufacturer does not tie the holster to any particular hardness. On the pages of its wooden pencils - for example the Classic 540 carpenter pencil and the Classic 545 FOR ALL universal pencil - Pica recommends exactly the Pocket as a matching holster for thick wooden pencils of all kinds. The manufacturer also offers the Pocket in bundles with a free pencil: with a carpenter's pencil (505/01), a stonemason pencil (505/02), a Black & White pencil (505/03) and a For All universal pencil (505/04).
