Pica-Gel Signalmarker 8080 Industrial Marker, White, Gel Lead

Pica-Gel Signalmarker 8080 is a German marker with a gel lead, built to replace the tube paint marker. Nothing to squeeze, nothing to drip, no tip drying out and no waiting - twist it out, mark, put it away. The manufacturer classes it as HIGH-PERMANENT: once the mark has dried, it stays.

Marks where pencil and marker give up

The gel lead writes equally on glossy and rough, on bright and dark, on hot and freezing cold. Rusty sheet, oily section, wet concrete, dusty stone - these are the surfaces where an ordinary permanent marker slides across and leaves nothing. The white gives excellent contrast even on a dark surface.

Durability

The mark is weather and light resistant, which means it will do for outdoor marking that has to survive for weeks. Markings withstand temperatures up to approximately 1000°C - which is why this marker is used before cutting and welding, where an ordinary mark burns away before it has done its job. The formula is chloride-free, making it acceptable on stainless steel, where chlorides cause corrosion.

One-handed use

The twist mechanism runs smoothly, and the line width is variable from 2 to 8 mm depending on how far the lead is wound out and at what angle you hold it. The cap is shaped as a quiver and clips to a pocket - the marker opens and closes with one hand while the other holds the work.

Economy

According to the manufacturer, one Pica-Gel replaces up to 4 tube markers of 50 ml each. There is also no dried-up residue thrown away with the tube.

Questions and Answers

What is a gel marker and why is it better than a paint tube?

Instead of liquid paint the marker carries a solid gel lead, wound out by a twist mechanism. There is no tube to squeeze, no paint running onto your hands and no dried-out tip. Pica states that one Pica-Gel replaces up to 4 tube markers of 50 ml.

Does it write on rusty, oily and wet surfaces?

Yes. That is what it is built for. The gel lead takes on glossy and rough surfaces, bright and dark, hot and very cold - where an ordinary permanent marker slides across and leaves no mark.

Can it be used on stainless steel?

Yes. The formula is chloride-free, and chlorides are the reason many markers are not allowed on stainless steel - they cause pitting corrosion. This one is made specifically to be used there.

Does the mark survive cutting and welding?

Markings are temperature resistant up to approximately 1000°C. That is why this marker is used before flame cutting and welding, where an ordinary mark burns away before it has done its job.

Can I mark outdoors?

Yes. The mark is weather and light resistant. Once dry it is permanent, so it stays outdoors until the surface itself is worked on.

Can the line width be varied?

Yes, between 2 and 8 mm. It depends on how far the lead is wound out and at what angle you hold the marker - that is the advantage of a gel lead over a fixed tip.

What is the difference between 8080 and 8080/SB?

It is the same marker. 8080 is the single marker; 8080/SB is the same one in a self-service blister. The range also includes blue 8081, red 8082, black 8083 and yellow 8084.
