Milwaukee WTSSG is a short-sleeve work T-shirt in grey, size M, with a chest pocket. The fabric is 60% cotton and 40% polyester at 230 gsm.

Why 230 grams

Fabric weight is the figure that separates a work shirt from an ordinary one. A standard T-shirt runs 140-160 gsm; at 230 gsm the cloth is appreciably denser. The practical difference is not warmth but wear resistance: a shirt rubbing against a tool belt, the shoulder straps of a bag or a van seat thins at those places in weeks rather than years.

The 60/40 blend

Cotton gives the feel and the breathability; polyester gives the strength and holds the shape. An all-cotton shirt stretches at the neck and shrinks in the wash; an all-polyester one does not breathe. The 60/40 blend is the point where the shirt still feels like cotton but survives hundreds of wash cycles without going out of shape.

Moisture wicking

The fabric carries a moisture-wicking treatment - sweat spreads across the surface and evaporates instead of collecting in patches. The other side of the same treatment is that the cloth repels water: a spill beads up and shakes off before it soaks through.

Anti-microbial treatment

The shirt is anti-microbial treated, which stops bacteria developing in the fabric. That is why the garment does not smell after a working day - the smell of sweat comes not from the sweat but from the bacteria breaking it down.

UPF 30+

The fabric blocks ultraviolet light to UPF 30+. Working outdoors all day that matters for the shoulders and back - the places that stay in the sun all day and that nobody puts cream on.

The pocket

The chest pocket takes a pencil, marker or phone - the things that should not live in trouser pockets when a tool belt is worn, because they come out on kneeling. That is also what separates it from the pocketless shirts in the same range.
