The 45° nose - for reaching round a corner

A nose bent at 45° answers the case where the target is not on the same axis as your hand: something dropped behind a partition, a cable behind a fitted panel, a nut set sideways in a recess. Straight pliers simply cannot get in there, because your wrist would have to rotate into the wall.

Cross handles

The handles are crossed (deep-reach cross handles) - the jaws close when the handles are opened, the reverse of ordinary pliers. The reason is geometric: with a crossed layout the pivot sits further back, so the whole front of the tool can be slimmer without losing jaw travel. That is exactly what lets a 33-centimetre tool enter an opening your fist will not.

One joint, not two

These are single-joint pliers. A double joint gives more force for the same squeeze, but at the cost of feel in the hand: the movement is vaguer and it is hard to judge how firmly the workpiece is held. Working blind - and long reach pliers are used exactly that way - control matters more than force, which is why a single joint is used here.

Gripping zones along the jaw

The jaws carry several gripping zones with different profiles - for screws, for cables and for round parts. The nose is serrated, which holds the work when you twist: a smooth nose slips at exactly the moment torque is applied, and a part dropped somewhere deep is rarely recovered on the second attempt.
