Expert by Facom E117353 is a 13 mm 6-point socket on a 1/4 inch drive in the standard (short) length. It is made of chrome vanadium steel with a high chrome finish and uses the OGV profile. It is 25 mm long and weighs 26 g. The manufacturer specifies it for manual use - with a ratchet, a spinner handle or an extension bar with a 1/4 inch square.

The OGV profile

An ordinary socket transmits the force through the corners of the nut. That is where the pressure peaks and where rounding starts. The OGV profile applies the tightening torque to the flanks of the hexagon instead, where the bearing area is far larger. The nut or bolt head is gripped securely and its edges are preserved even after repeated loosening and tightening.

1/4 inch drive and 13 mm size

The 1/4 inch square is the smallest of the standard drives. Ratchets and extensions for it are compact, which makes it convenient for lower tightening torque and for tight spots where a larger ratchet has no room to swing. In the Expert by Facom 1/4 inch 6-point socket range the sizes run from 4 to 14 mm, so 13 mm is one of the largest sizes on this drive.

Material and finish

Chrome vanadium steel is the usual material for quality hand sockets. The high chrome finish protects against corrosion and lets the socket be wiped clean of oil and dirt in one pass.

The socket complies with ISO 2725-1 and DIN 3124, with ISO 1174-1 for the drive square, with ISO 1711-1 and with ISO 691 for the opening tolerances. The manufacturer's specification also lists ASME B107.110. In practice this means the dimensions follow the norm and the socket fits 1/4 inch ratchets and extensions from other brands too.
