What the rod does

In a cordless caulk gun the gearbox does not push the sealant directly - it drives a toothed rod, and the rod pushes the plunger into the cartridge. The tool's entire dispensing force passes through the teeth of this rod. That makes it a wear part: the teeth round off, the gearbox starts to skip and the flow becomes intermittent - which is when you replace it.

Why the rod is tied to the carriage size

The C18 PCG runs interchangeable carriages - 310 ml cartridges and 400 or 600 ml sausages. Each carriage has a different length and plunger diameter, so each has its own rod. This rod is specifically for the 310 ml carriage (48080900) - the standard cartridge used most of the time - and is not interchangeable with the sausage carriage rods.

When to replace it
