PICA MASTER-SET Marking Set, Article 55010

PICA 55010 is a marking set built around two Pica-Dry automatic pencils with refills, plus two markers for difficult surfaces. EAN 4260056157196.

Exactly what is inside

Six items, each with its own PICA article number:

• 2 x Pica-Dry deep-hole marker (3030)
• 1 x Pica-Dry refill - 10 graphite leads, 10H (4050)
• 1 x Pica-Dry refill - 4 graphite + 2 red + 2 yellow (4020)
• 1 x PICA Classic permanent marker INSTANT-WHITE (532/52)
• Bonus: 1 x Pica-Ink deep-hole marker, black (150/46)

Why two pencils rather than one

The Pica-Dry is an automatic pencil with a 2.8 mm lead and a sharpener built into the cap. Changing colour means changing the lead, which takes seconds but interrupts the work. Two bodies means graphite in one and colour in the other - no stopping to reload.

The difference between the refills

4050 is ten graphite leads in 10H - hard, for a fine and lasting line on smooth surfaces. 4020 is mixed: 4 graphite, 2 red and 2 yellow. The colours read on dark material where graphite disappears - which is the whole reason they are in the set.

Made for deep holes

Both the Pica-Dry and the Pica-Ink are deep-hole markers - the tip is extended and shielded so it reaches into a bore or a narrow gap where an ordinary pencil or marker cannot. That is the main reason this range gets bought.

Ink or graphite

Graphite on the Pica-Dry rubs out and can be corrected - useful when setting out. Ink on the Pica-Ink 150/46 is permanent and waterproof and stays where it is put. The INSTANT-WHITE permanent marker covers the third case: white on dark and oily.

What it writes on

The Pica-Dry range grips tile, gloss and glass, and equally metal, rusty and oiled surfaces - exactly where an ordinary pencil slides. That makes this a set for installation work rather than for drawing on paper.

Why 10H

The 4050 refill is 10H - the hard end of the pencil scale. Soft graphite smears on a smooth surface and the line is gone at the first touch; hard leaves a thin, precise, lasting mark, but wants less pressure, because it snaps under heavy hands. For setting out on tile and metal that is the right choice; for writing on cardboard it is not.
