Knipex 00 20 01 V09 is a set of four precision circlip pliers in a foam tray. It holds two pairs for internal circlips (in a bore) and two for external circlips (on a shaft), each in a straight and a 90 degree angled form.

Why four rather than one

Circlip pliers are not universal, and that is why the set exists. Internal circlips are squeezed to come out of the groove in a bore - those pliers open. External circlips are spread to come off a shaft - those pliers close. The two mechanisms work in opposite directions and one plier cannot do both.

Straight and angled

Straight tips suit circlips with direct access along the axis. The 90 degree angled ones are for when something sits in front - a bearing cover, a shaft, a housing wall - and the pliers have to come in from the side. Repairing gearboxes and hydraulics, the second case is the commoner one.

Precision, not ordinary

The precision designation at Knipex means tips of smaller diameter and tighter tolerance - for the small circlips where an ordinary plier simply will not enter the ring's holes. The tips are hardened separately from the body so they take bending.

The foam tray

The tray is sized for a tool trolley drawer. Its practical role is not tidiness but visibility: a missing plier shows immediately as an empty silhouette, instead of being discovered only when it is needed.

Using them

Insert the tip fully into the holes of the circlip and hold it on the axis. A circlip that slips flies at speed - which is why eye protection is not a recommendation on this job. Do not open further than needed: overstretching deforms the ring permanently and it no longer holds.
