The three numbers that must match

A chain is chosen on three parameters, and all three must match your machine - matching the length alone is not enough:

• Pitch 0.325" - the spacing between rivets. It is set by the saw's drive sprocket. A chain with the wrong pitch will not seat in the sprocket.
• Gauge 1.3 mm - the width of the drive link that runs in the bar groove. A thicker chain will not fit; a thinner one wanders and derails.
• 66 drive links - for a 40 cm bar. The link count, not the centimetres, decides whether the chain tensions correctly.

When buying a new chain, always check all three - they are usually stamped on the bar of the machine itself.

What Pixel means

Pixel is Husqvarna's designation for a narrow cutting profile. A narrow chain removes less material per cut, which means less work for the engine and a faster cut at the same power. The difference is clearest on mid-class machines, where every watt saved counts.

Semi chisel

The cutter has a semi chisel profile - a rounded corner instead of a sharp one. This is the trade-off in favour of durability: the sharp full-chisel profile cuts faster in clean timber but blunts almost instantly on soil, grit or dirty bark. Semi chisel holds its edge far longer in dirty conditions and is more forgiving to sharpen - exactly what garden work, clearing scrub trees and cutting firewood call for.

Guarded drive link and low kickback

The chain has a guarded drive link and is classified as a low-kickback chain. Kickback is the sudden upward and backward throw of the saw when the bar nose touches material - the commonest cause of serious chainsaw injuries. The guarded link reduces its likelihood without making the chain slow.

X-CUT - entirely Husqvarna's own

X-CUT is the first saw chain developed, designed and manufactured entirely by Husqvarna. The stated advantages are sharpness that lasts, low stretch and high cutting efficiency. Low stretch has a direct practical meaning: every new chain stretches during its first hours and needs re-tensioning - the less it stretches, the fewer times you stop work.
