The pyramid point

The point is forged to a pyramid. The shape is not decoration - the four tapered faces act as a wedge and split the material sideways instead of only crushing it downward. The whole blow concentrates on one point, which is why a pointed chisel penetrates where a flat one just bounces.

What it is for

It is intended for demolition work and for making openings and breakthroughs in concrete, masonry and many other materials. It also suits removing loose rock - where the substrate is already unstable and a flat chisel would smear it rather than lift it.

Pointed or flat

The site rule is simple. The point starts - it makes the first hole and breaks the mass open. The flat chisel continues - it widens what has been started and works across a surface. Starting straight in with a flat chisel on sound concrete wastes time and punishes the machine.

The 19 / 21 mm shank

This is the hex shank of heavy breakers, not SDS. The round section is 19 mm, the hex 21 mm. It is not interchangeable with SDS-max or SDS-plus: it is a separate standard for the heaviest class of machine.

Compatible machines

HiKOKI names them explicitly: DH50SA, DH50SA1, H55SA, H60KA - the HiKOKI and Hitachi breakers of that class. On another make with a 19/21 mm shank it will also fit, but check the depth of the tool holder.

The 380 mm length

380 mm is the short length in this range - HiKOKI also offers 450 mm. The shorter chisel is stiffer and deflects less under the blow, which is why it is preferred close in and for breaking vertically downward. The longer one earns its place only when you need to reach depth.

Greasing the shank

The shank is greased with hammer grease before every insertion. A dry chisel in a dry holder wears the machine's bush - and that costs many times what the chisel does.
