Makita MT M6600B Electric Mixer, 800 W, M14 Thread

M6600B is a mains mixer from the Makita MT range - the line with simpler equipment and a lower price than the main catalogue. The machine has an 800 W motor, variable speed and an M14 thread for paddles up to 165 mm across.

Speed comes off the trigger

Speed runs from zero to 700 min^-1. Starting from zero is what matters when mixing: the paddle goes into the material stationary and the speed comes up gradually, instead of being let loose at full speed and throwing half the adhesive out of the bucket. For finishing, the mix is run fast until it is even.

What it mixes

800 W and 700 rpm are for tile adhesives, grouts, fillers, plaster mixes, paints and primers. Stiff concrete and large volumes call for two-speed machines with a lower speed range; this one is for the buckets a single person carries.

The thread and the paddles

The spindle carries an M14 thread - the commonest standard on mixing paddles, so the choice of attachment is wide. Makita rates the machine for paddles up to Ø165 mm. A larger paddle loads the motor beyond what it is built for, and in a stiff mix the machine will stall.

Size and noise

The body measures 280 x 86 x 388 mm and Makita gives the weight as about 2.6-2.7 kg. Sound pressure is 85 dB(A) and vibration 2.5 m/s² or less. The two side handles let the machine be held in both hands, which in a stiff mix is the only way to keep control.
