Collomix WK 70 S Mixing Paddle, 70 x 400 mm, 41100-000

Collomix WK 70 S is a mortar mixing paddle 70 mm in diameter and 400 mm long, catalogue number 41100-000. It is the smallest paddle in the WK range and is rated for batches up to 7 kg - a bucket of grout, a small run of screed, repair filler, tile adhesive for a single row. The shank is a plain 10 mm round, which clamps in an ordinary three-jaw chuck, so the paddle works in any drill or chuck-type mixer without an adapter.

Twin helix and mixing direction

The working end carries two helices that move material from the bottom upwards. That direction is what heavy mineral mixes need: dry powder is lifted off the bottom of the bucket into the water above, instead of sitting there as an unmixed lump under the paddle. The result is an even mix in fewer revolutions and less strain on both the operator and the machine.

What it mixes

Collomix recommends the WK range for ready-mixed mortar, cement screed, plaster and joint grout - compact, viscous materials with a high aggregate content. The paddle is not intended for liquid materials such as paints, coatings and primers, which need the opposite action, mixing from the top downwards.

Using it on site

Start the paddle already submerged and stop it before lifting it out - that way nothing is thrown out of the bucket and no air is beaten into the mix. Work at low speed, guiding the paddle slowly around the walls and across the bottom of the container. Clean it immediately after use, while the mortar is still wet; hardened material on the helices changes the shape of the working end and degrades the mix on the next batch.

Size and choosing between models

Diameter is what sets the batch a paddle can handle. At 70 mm the range is up to roughly 7 kg - beyond that the paddle bogs down and mixing slows. The larger models in the range, WK 90 S, WK 100 S and WK 120 S, cover 10, 15 and 25 kg respectively. Collomix paddles are made in Germany and are supplied singly.

Questions and Answers

How big a batch can this paddle mix?

About 7 kg of made-up material - Collomix quotes 0 to 7 kg for the WK 70 S. That is a bucket of grout, a small batch of screed or tile adhesive for a few square metres. For larger batches move up to the WK 90 S (10 kg) or WK 100 S (15 kg).

How does it mount - do I need an adapter?

No. The shank is a plain 10 mm round and clamps straight into an ordinary three-jaw chuck. It works in a drill or a chuck-type mixer taking up to 13 mm, with no adapter and no quick-change system.

Can I use it for paint?

It is not intended for that. The WK range moves material from the bottom upwards, which is the right action for heavy mineral mixes. Paints, coatings and primers need the opposite - mixing from the top down, so air is not beaten into the material.

Why does it have two helices?

The two helices share the load and lift material evenly over the whole height of the working end. Mixing runs more calmly, the bucket does not get dragged sideways, and the machine is loaded less than with a single-helix paddle.

What speed should I run it at?

Low. Start the paddle already submerged in the material and stop it before lifting it out. Starting at high speed throws mix out of the bucket, beats air into the mortar and loads the machine for nothing.

Which machines is it compatible with?

Any drill or hand-held mixer with a three-jaw chuck that takes a 10 mm shank. For mixers with a HEXAFIX coupling or an M14 thread, choose the matching versions from the WK range - WK 120 HF, WK 140 HF, WK 120 M and WK 140 M.

How do I clean it?

Straight after use, before the mortar sets - easiest in a bucket of clean water while the paddle is still turning slowly. Hardened mix on the helices changes the shape of the working end and spoils the mix quality on the next batch.
