DeWalt Newark Brown Buffalo Safety Footwear, Size 44 (UK 10), DWF50140-133-10

DeWalt Newark Brown Buffalo (order number DWF50140-133-10) is protective work footwear with a mid cut profile in EU size 44, corresponding to UK 10. It is classified S3 WR SRA to EN ISO 20345.

Toe and underfoot protection

The footwear has a steel toe cap rated to 200 J and steel midsole plate. The plate covers the whole footbed and guards against penetration when stepping on a nail or rebar - the most common site accident after a fall from height.

Upper and waterproofing

The upper is waterproof buffalo leather with a Hydroguard membrane. The membrane works both ways: it keeps water out while letting perspiration vapour escape, so the foot does not get damp from inside. That is what separates a genuinely waterproof boot from a merely treated one, where the foot soaks in its own moisture after a few hours.

Sole

The sole is an injection-moulded PU/TPU outsole. The marking in the classification states the tested slip resistance - a figure that matters directly on wet concrete, steel ladders and spilled oil.

Style and fit

The model uses conventional lacing and a hiker profile with a reinforced heel for ankle support. A reinforced rand around the toe protects the upper from abrasion when kneeling and working close to rough surfaces.

Choosing a size

The order number ends in the UK size, and the European size is that plus 34 - UK 10 is EU 44. With safety footwear it is worth trying on in the afternoon, when the foot is slightly swollen, and in the socks you will actually work in: the toe cap is rigid and a tight fit will not break in with wear.

Who they are for

The footwear is aimed at construction and installation crews, warehouse and production staff, transport and logistics - anywhere you stand and walk all day and where a dropped object or a nail underfoot is a real risk. Safety footwear is also the cheapest piece of personal protective equipment relative to what it prevents: crushed toes and puncture wounds are injuries with months of recovery.

Questions and Answers

What size is this footwear?

Order number DWF50140-133-10 corresponds to UK size 10, that is EU 44. The figure after the last hyphen in the number is the UK size; the European size is that plus 34.

What does the S3 WR SRA classification mean?

S3 denotes footwear with a toe cap, underfoot penetration resistance, antistatic properties, heel energy absorption and a water-resistant upper. WR is an additional degree of water resistance, and SRA/SRC the tested slip resistance.

Is there metal in the construction?

Yes - a steel toe cap rated to 200 J and a steel midsole plate. Steel gives maximum protection but weighs more than composite and conducts cold. If you need metal-free footwear, look for a model with a composite toe cap.

Are they waterproof?

Yes, the upper carries a waterproof membrane that keeps water out while letting perspiration vapour escape. That does not mean the boot can be submerged - water above the top of the tongue will get in over the edge.

Are they suitable for all-day wear?

Yes, that is what they are built for. With safety footwear it matters not to lace too tightly - the toe cap is rigid and squeezed toes have nowhere to go over a working day.

How should the footwear be cared for?

Let leather dry, brush the mud off, then treat with a proofer that does not block the membrane - ordinary wax pastes do, and the boot stops breathing. Never dry them on a radiator or by a stove: rapid drying shrinks the leather and separates the sole.

How do they differ from ordinary work shoes?

Safety footwear is tested to EN ISO 20345 - a 200 J impact on the toe cap, slip resistance, antistatic properties and, depending on class, penetration and water resistance. An ordinary work shoe may be tough, but it guarantees none of those figures.
