DeWalt Fargo Black Safety Footwear, Size 46 (UK 12), DWF50233-101-12

DeWalt Fargo Black (order number DWF50233-101-12) is protective work footwear with a low cut profile in EU size 46, corresponding to UK 12. It is classified SB SRA HRO FO to EN ISO 20345.

Toe and underfoot protection

The footwear has a steel toe cap and no midsole plate. Leaving out the plate means more flexibility and less weight, but also that these are not intended for ground with nails and protruding steel - such conditions call for a class carrying a P or S mark.

Upper and waterproofing

The upper is lightweight synthetic upper with a reinforced toe area. The synthetic upper is considerably lighter than leather and dries faster, but offers no waterproofing - these are for dry conditions and indoor work.

Sole

The sole is an Phylon/rubber outsole with heat resistance. The marking in the classification states the tested slip resistance - a figure that matters directly on wet concrete, steel ladders and spilled oil.

Style and fit

The model uses conventional lacing and a hiker profile with a reinforced heel for ankle support. A reinforced rand around the toe protects the upper from abrasion when kneeling and working close to rough surfaces.

Choosing a size

The order number ends in the UK size, and the European size is that plus 34 - UK 12 is EU 46. With safety footwear it is worth trying on in the afternoon, when the foot is slightly swollen, and in the socks you will actually work in: the toe cap is rigid and a tight fit will not break in with wear.

Who they are for

The footwear is aimed at construction and installation crews, warehouse and production staff, transport and logistics - anywhere you stand and walk all day and where a dropped object or a nail underfoot is a real risk. Safety footwear is also the cheapest piece of personal protective equipment relative to what it prevents: crushed toes and puncture wounds are injuries with months of recovery.

Questions and Answers

What size is this footwear?

Order number DWF50233-101-12 corresponds to UK size 12, that is EU 46. The figure after the last hyphen in the number is the UK size; the European size is that plus 34.

What does the SB SRA HRO FO classification mean?

SB is the base level - a protective toe cap and nothing more. SRA is tested slip resistance on ceramic tile with detergent, HRO is the sole's resistance to contact heat, and FO resistance to fuel and oil.

Is there metal in the construction?

Yes - a steel toe cap. Steel gives maximum protection but weighs more than composite and conducts cold. If you need metal-free footwear, look for a model with a composite toe cap.

Are they waterproof?

No. The synthetic upper is not waterproof and has no membrane. These are intended for dry conditions and indoor work; wet environments call for an S3 class model with a membrane.

Are they suitable for all-day wear?

Yes, that is what they are built for. With safety footwear it matters not to lace too tightly - the toe cap is rigid and squeezed toes have nowhere to go over a working day.

How should the footwear be cared for?

The synthetic upper cleans with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Dry at room temperature away from a radiator - direct heat deforms the Phylon sole.

How do they differ from ordinary work shoes?

Safety footwear is tested to EN ISO 20345 - a 200 J impact on the toe cap, slip resistance, antistatic properties and, depending on class, penetration and water resistance. An ordinary work shoe may be tough, but it guarantees none of those figures.
