The DeWALT DCB118Y2T is a FLEXVOLT starter kit with two DCB548 XR FLEXVOLT batteries rated 18/54 V, 12 Ah at 18 V (4 Ah at 54 V) and 216 Wh each, a DCB118 fast charger and a TSTAK II case. The manufacturer describes it as a 54-volt starter kit suited to installation work thanks to safe, impact-protected transport.

The DCB548 batteries

The XR FLEXVOLT batteries are designed for the heaviest applications. They are backward compatible and work with all DeWALT XR cordless tools at 54 V as well as at 18 V - except the DCS371 band saw and the Tough radio. On 18-volt tools the capacity is 12 Ah. The batteries have no memory effect, and dedicated electronics protect them against overload, overheating and deep discharge. A robust housing and shock-proof soldered cells suit hard jobsite use, and a 3-LED fuel gauge shows the charge at the push of a button. For transport the cell levels are separated mechanically, so the battery stays below 100 Wh - the threshold for class 9 dangerous goods.

The DCB118 charger

The DCB118 fast charger charges all 18 V XR batteries and FLEXVOLT batteries at up to 8 A. The two-stage charging process with dedicated fan cooling is gentle on the batteries and, according to DeWALT, extends their life at maximum capacity. LED indicators show battery and charging status, and the compact charger can also be wall mounted.

The TSTAK II case

Batteries and charger are stored in a TSTAK II case, protected from dust and moisture. The standard insert also takes a third FLEXVOLT battery and two 18-volt batteries up to 5 Ah, as well as other combinations of batteries and chargers.
