Bosch GAL 12V-20 Professional Battery Charger, 3.6-12 V, 2.0 A

The Bosch GAL 12V-20 Professional is Bosch's compact charger for the entire 3.6-12 V voltage class. The article number is 2 607 226 187. The unit consists of a charging cradle and a separate 230 V mains power supply with wall plug, which keeps the charger itself extremely light and easy to carry in a tool case.

Battery compatibility

The charger detects battery voltage automatically and works with every Bosch Professional lithium-ion battery in the 3.6 V and 12 V (10.8 V) classes - from the small screwdriver packs up to the GBA 12V 6.0Ah. There is no mode to select and nothing to switch: slide the battery into the bay and charging starts.

Charging current and charging times

The charging current is 2.0 A. According to Bosch's official figures a full charge takes approximately 65 minutes for a GBA 12V 2.0Ah, 95 minutes for a 3.0Ah, 124 minutes for a 4.0Ah and 185 minutes for a 6.0Ah. Actual times depend on battery temperature and cell condition, so treat the values as guidance.

Status indicator

The housing carries a single green charge-status indicator above the charging bay. A flashing green light means the battery is charging; a steady green light means charging is complete and the battery is fully charged. That is the whole control logic - there are no buttons and no settings.

Build and safety

The charger is protection class II (double insulated), so it needs no earth connection. It weighs just 0.25 kg without the mains lead and plug. The plastic housing is compact and sits stably on a flat surface, while the lead to the power supply lets the charger be tucked into a tight corner of a workshop cabinet.

What is the charging current?
