XR Gold Wood Screws 5.0 x 120 mm, Pozi, Box of 100, 010239

XR Gold are professional wood screws from Concept Distribution, size 5.0 x 120 mm, with a countersunk head and a deep Pozi recess, in a box of 100. They are made from hardened steel with a gold finish.

The deep Pozi recess

The recess is Pozi, but deeper than usual. More contact area with the bit means less cam-out and fewer chewed heads. Any standard PZ2 bit drives it - nothing special to buy.

Double countersunk collar

Beneath the head sits a double countersunk collar that clears the fibres at the last moment. The head seats flush without a raised lip - on visible work that is the difference between neat and nearly.

The 5.0 x 120 mm size

A structural length - timber to timber, framing, fencing, decking. At these lengths pilot drilling is advisable in hardwood so the head does not twist off. The depth rule is two thirds of the length into the lower member: at 120 mm that means a top piece of about 40 mm.

Strength

Shear strength at gauge M5.0 is 7.3 kN. The figure matters for comparison: a thinner screw is not merely smaller, it carries appreciably less. So choose the gauge by the load and the length by the thickness of the material.

Which materials

They suit hardwood, softwood, MDF, plywood, chipboard and composite. Hardened steel takes the torque of a cordless driver without twisting the head off.

An internal screw

XR Gold is an internal screw. The gold finish handles normal indoor humidity, but it is not intended for outdoors, treated timber or oak. Concept's XR Bronze covers those.

Box or tub

This article is the 100-piece cardboard box. Concept also offers the popular sizes in a plastic belt tub. A box lies flat, stacks in a drawer or organiser and works out cheaper per screw; a tub is for site, where cardboard is torn open within two days.
