STANLEY 1-TRA705-5T are hand tacker staples of type G with a leg length of 8 mm. The manufacturer classifies them as heavy-duty: thick gauge wire that holds well in thin woods, wire netting, insulation and sheet materials.

The size is the whole product

With staples the number in the article means one thing only - the leg length. For 1-TRA705-5T it is 8 mm. The crown (width) across this range is 11.4 mm according to the manufacturer and is the same for every length, which is why one tool accepts the whole range and the length is chosen to suit the material thickness.

Galvanised coating

The staples are steel with a galvanized zinc-aluminium coating. The coating slows corrosion, which matters when fixing insulation, netting and upholstery in damp rooms, and on materials that will later be painted or plastered over.

Choosing the length

The rule is that the leg should enter the substrate by at least two thirds of its length. Thin upholstery fabric on a timber frame needs 6-8 mm; wire netting, insulation and thicker sheet materials call for 10-12 mm. Longer is not always better - in a thin substrate the leg simply comes out the other side.
