Why the sponge is a consumable

Washing grout works the sponge in an abrasive slurry of cement and sand. It wears, it compresses, and at some point it stops taking up water evenly - then the grout washes off in streaks and the job looks careless. A new sponge costs a fraction of a new float.

The replaceable system

The sponge is bonded to a plastic plate with lugs that clip into the SUPERPRO handle. Changing it takes seconds, with no tool and no adhesive. That is the point of the range: the handle stays, only the working face is replaced.

The 3 cm thickness

This version carries a 3 cm sponge. Most of the range is 4 cm - and that is the thing to check when ordering, because the plate mounts identically either way. The thinner sponge gives a more direct feel for the tile and is preferred for the final wipe, while the thicker one holds more water and suits the first wash.

What SWEEPEX means

The SUPERPRO range offers several sponge types. SWEEPEX has a finer, denser structure for a clean, streak-free wash. RUBI also offers SUPERPRO PLUS and a cellulose-epoxy sponge for more aggressive cleaning.

Making it last

What kills a sponge is cement left to dry in it. Rinse it thoroughly the moment you finish and let it dry open, not squashed in the bucket. Lime hardened in the pores afterwards scours the glaze and leaves dull marks that then have to be polished out.
