4932480939 is a universal (cardan) joint on a 1/4'' drive from the Milwaukee accessory range. It sits between the ratchet and the socket and puts a hinge in the drive line, so the fastener still turns when the tool cannot be brought square onto it.

Why a joint and not a straight adapter

An adapter or an extension bar carries the turn along one straight axis - the ratchet has to face the bolt head on. A universal joint breaks that axis: the tool stays at an angle while the socket sits flat on the fastener. That is the difference between reaching the bolt and stripping half an assembly down to get at it.

The 1/4'' drive

The drive is 1/4'' on both ends - a female square for the ratchet or extension, a male square for the socket. A quarter inch is the smallest of the three common drive sizes and belongs on small fastenings in tight spaces. The joint stacks freely with the rest of the same drive: extension, then joint, then socket.

Chrome finish and ball detent

The body carries a chrome finish, which protects the steel against corrosion and rust in the tool box and on a wet site. The socket is held by a ball detent: the ball drops into the socket recess and stops it sliding off while the hand is working blind behind an engine or under reinforcement. Overhead, that is the point of it - the socket stays on the joint instead of landing on the floor.

Where it is used

Vehicle work is the classic case: bolts in an engine bay that no ratchet can face squarely. The same goes for pipe and duct installation, for servicing machine cabinets, and for any fastener hidden behind another part. The item is supplied on its own - 1 pc., sockets not included.
