Milwaukee M18 JS2000-0 HOTSHOT Jump Starter, 18V, 2000 A

The M18 JS2000-0 HOTSHOT is a cordless jump starter on the M18 platform, delivering up to 2000 peak amps and starting petrol engines up to 8.1 litres and diesels up to 3.0 litres. It runs on a Milwaukee M18 battery - the same pack you use for the rest of your tools - so there is no separate internal battery to maintain.

Ready without pre-charging

An ordinary booster has to be charged in advance and loses charge sitting in the boot. That falls away here: the unit has no battery of its own to go flat, needs no maintenance, and is ready to jump in under 70 seconds once a pack is fitted. On one M18 5.0 Ah battery the manufacturer states up to 50 jump starts.

Protection

The unit is spark proof and has reverse polarity protection - put the clamps on the wrong way round and it will not pass current. There is also overheat protection and a warning when work continues in override mode. The clamps use a custom design that gives better access to the battery terminals and a more secure connection. The panel carries a USB outlet and a light button.

Working hot and cold

The stated operating range is -20 °C to +50 °C. Cold is exactly when a car battery gives up and when most boosters lose capacity, so the lower limit here has practical meaning.

Applications

Workshops, roadside assistance, vehicle fleets and construction sites with plant that stands idle for long spells. It also suits crews already working on M18 batteries who do not want another device with its own charging routine.
