Milwaukee 4932499021 are tin snips with extended jaws for straight cutting, 310 mm overall. The blades are forged alloy steel with a hard chrome plating.

Why extended jaws

Standard aviation snips cut in a short stroke - you open and close for every centimetre. With extended jaws a single squeeze covers noticeably more distance, which on a long straight cut means fewer strokes and less fatigue in the hand. The second benefit matters more: fewer stops means fewer stop marks - the edge comes out smoother instead of nibbled every centimetre.

Straight cut

These snips are for straight cuts and wide curves. They are not for cutting circles or tight turns - that is what left and right models with sideways-offset jaws are for. If your work is shortening a sheet or cutting a strip to length, the long straight snip is exactly the tool.

Blades and plating

The cutting edges are serrated so the sheet does not slip out under pressure - without serrations thin sheet runs forward and the cut wanders. The material is forged alloy steel, and the hard chrome plating is primarily corrosion protection. Tin snips live in a bag with damp material and swarf, and rust on the cutting edge kills them faster than wear.

Mechanism and bolt

The lock is one-handed - you open and close the snips without letting go of the sheet. The bolt has a flush design: it does not protrude and will not hang up on the material as you run the snips down a long cut.

Safety

The edge left after cutting sheet metal is razor sharp. Work in gloves and eye protection - the offcut strip curls and springs back.

What do the extended jaws give you?
