Milwaukee Linesman's Aerial Tool Apron, Vinyl, 600 x 640 x 100 mm, 4932498653
The Milwaukee Linesman's Aerial Tool Apron (article number 4932498653) is a vinyl tool-organiser apron measuring 600 x 640 x 100 mm. The word aerial is not marketing - the product is designed for work at height: in a bucket truck, up a pole or on scaffolding, where tools cannot be set down on the ground and every dropped item is an incident.
Vinyl, not canvas
The material is tough vinyl, not textile. The difference is practical: vinyl does not absorb water, wipes clean with a damp cloth, and holds no moisture - which up a pole in the wind means cold hands and rusting tools. It also does not fray at the edges from rubbing against scaffolding or a pole, the way canvas does.
The pockets are specialised, not identical
What separates this from an ordinary tool bag is that the pockets differ by purpose rather than being a row of identical compartments:
- Puncture-resistant knife pockets - the blade will not come through the wall of the pocket, which is a real hazard for a knife left in an ordinary fabric pocket.
- An auger bit holder that will not burn through when a hot bit goes back in after drilling.
- A dedicated floodlight pocket - the work light has a fixed home rather than sitting at the bottom under everything else.
- Magnetic socket holders - small sockets and bits are held magnetically instead of being fished out of a pocket.
Hanging and drainage
The apron hangs from nickel-plated brass eyelets - nickel and brass do not rust and do not elongate under load, unlike zinc-plated eyelets, which tear out after a few months. Additional D-rings take carabiners, tool lanyards and extra pouches. Weep holes in the base let rainwater drain out of the pockets instead of standing in them - a detail that matters only to someone who has actually left a bag outside overnight.
Working with tool lanyards
Every tool used at height should be tethered. The apron's D-rings exist precisely for that: the tool is tied to a ring, not to your belt or to yourself. A spanner dropped from ten metres is lethal to anyone below, and tethering is the one measure that works regardless of how attentive the operator happens to be.
One important note
The article is the apron only. The tools, light and power tools shown in the photograph illustrate how the pockets are laid out and are not included.
