Milwaukee Inner-Outer Pipe Deburrer 6-35 mm, 4932493812
Milwaukee article number 4932493812 is a hand reamer for internal and external deburring of pipes from 6 to 35 mm in diameter. It carries 40 hardened and ground cutting edges in an aluminium housing with external ridges for grip.
Why deburring is not cosmetic
After a pipe is cut - with a cutter, a hacksaw or an angle grinder - a burr is left on the inside and the outside of the cut. Each causes a specific problem. The internal burr restricts the bore, creates turbulence and collects deposits - on a water main that means lost flow, and on a heating system, noise as well. The external burr matters even more: on press and push-fit joints it cuts or rolls the O-ring as the pipe goes in, and that is the classic cause of a leak which appears weeks later.
Two functions in one tool
The tool works both ways: one end removes the internal burr and forms an inner chamfer, the other dresses the outer edge. On press systems the external chamfer is arguably the more important - it guides the pipe through the seal instead of letting the pipe scrape it. The operation takes seconds and is done by hand, with no tool and no machine.
Forty cutting edges
The forty hardened and ground edges spread the work and produce an even chamfer rather than a chattered one. The high count has a second consequence: as some edges wear, others keep cutting, which extends the tool's working life. Grinding after hardening is what makes the edges cut rather than smear soft material.
Materials
The reamer works on plastic, copper, aluminium, steel, iron, brass and stainless steel. That covers practically the whole range found in plumbing and heating - from polypropylene and multilayer pipe through copper to stainless systems for gas and fire suppression.
Ridged aluminium housing
The housing is aluminium - it survives being dropped on site, unlike plastic reamers. The external ridges have a specific purpose: to let the tool be turned securely with gloves on and with wet or oily hands. In plumbing work that is the normal state of your hands, not the exception.
How to use it
After cutting, insert the pipe into the appropriate end and turn it a few times under light pressure. Do not force it - the aim is to remove the burr and form a light chamfer, not to thin the pipe wall. Afterwards, wipe the swarf away: left inside the system it blocks aerators, filters and valves just as reliably as any other foreign body.
