Makita UB002GZ is a compact cordless blower from the XGT 40V max system, with a brushless motor, air volume of up to 3.6 m³/min and air speed of up to 99 m/s. The Z suffix indicates that the tool ships as a bare unit - no battery and no charger.

A compact blower, not a garden leaf blower

The distinction is worth making, because it decides whether you will be happy with the purchase. At 516 mm long and 1.3 kg without a battery, the UB002G is a handheld, pistol-grip blower made for clearing a workspace, machinery, tools, electrical panels, filters and ventilation grilles, for blowing dust out of holes before plugging them, and for drying surfaces. It will handle leaves on a terrace or in front of a garage, but it is not the tube-and-harness garden blower used to clear a yard - for that kind of area the air volume is simply too low.

Three stages plus a variable trigger

Control works on two levels. A three-stage dial sets the upper power limit, and the trigger is fully variable within the selected stage. The practical value lies in stage one: it lets you blow across small parts, paperwork or fresh paint without carrying them away - something a trigger-only blower struggles to do repeatably. There is also a trigger lock for sustained work at constant power.

Vacuum function

The machine also works in reverse, as a vacuum. That is an unusual feature on a blower and it is particularly useful indoors, where blowing simply relocates the dust. In vacuum mode shavings and dust are collected into a bag instead of being lifted into the air, which matters when working in an occupied room or around finished installation work.

Brushless motor and XPT protection

The motor is brushless - no carbon brushes to wear, higher efficiency and correspondingly longer run time per charge. The housing uses XPT (eXtreme Protection Technology), which seals the electronics and motor against dust and water to IPX4. On a blower that is not a luxury: the tool works inside the very dust cloud it draws through its own housing.

The XGT 40V max system

XGT is a standalone Makita platform and is not compatible with LXT 18V - the batteries and chargers differ, even though the two systems sit side by side in the catalogue. The UB002GZ runs on any XGT battery. Run time depends directly on the stage selected: on stage three the blower drains a pack many times faster than on stage one.

Who it suits

It is aimed at installers, electricians, joiners, vehicle workshops and building maintenance - anywhere that cleaning with compressed air is awkward because of the hose, or where there is no air line at all. If you already work within the XGT system, the bare unit is the cheapest way to add this tool.
