Makita B-22034 Diamond Blade, 110 x 20 mm, Wet Cutting, Continuous Rim

Makita B-22034 is a diamond blade 110 mm in diameter with a 20 mm bore and a continuous rim. Thickness is 2.0 mm, segment height 5 mm, and maximum speed reaches 13,880 rpm (80 m/s). The blade is for wet cutting only and conforms to EN 13236.

Continuous rim - for a clean cut

The cutting rim is continuous rather than segmented, and that difference defines what the blade is for. A segmented blade has gaps between the segments that let cooling air in - it cuts fast but leaves a chipped edge. A continuous rim has no gaps, so it cuts more slowly but produces a smooth cut with no chipping. On granite, marble and ceramic that is decisive: the cut face stays visible, and a chipped edge cannot be repaired.

Wet cutting only - and why that is not advice

The blade is marked for wet cutting, and that is a requirement, not a preference. A continuous rim has no gaps for cooling air - cut dry and the rim overheats within seconds, the bond softens and the diamond grit tears out. The blade is destroyed permanently. Water performs two jobs at once here: it cools and it flushes the slurry out of the cut.

Materials

The blade cuts granite, marble and concrete - hard mineral materials where cut quality matters. Typical applications are cutting natural stone slabs, shaping sills and trim, trimming porcelain tile and wet work on a tile saw.

Maximum speed

The 13,880 rpm limit corresponds to a rim speed of 80 m/s - the figure the blade body is engineered for. This is a safety limit rather than a performance recommendation: above it, centrifugal force exceeds what the blade is designed to take. Check your machine's speed before fitting.

20 mm bore

The bore is 20 mm - the standard for 110 mm wet tile-cutting machines such as the Makita 4101RH. A machine with a different spindle diameter needs a reducing ring, not a blade forced onto it: a blade mounted off-centre wobbles, cuts at an angle and destroys itself.

Safety

Work with eye protection, gloves and hearing protection - the symbols for these are printed on the blade itself. Wet cutting stone releases silica dust the moment the water stops: watch the water feed continuously. Never cut dry "just briefly" - on a continuous rim even a short dry cut damages the blade permanently.

Questions and Answers

Can I cut dry "just briefly"?

No. A continuous rim has no gaps for cooling air - cut dry and the rim overheats within seconds, the bond softens and the diamond grit tears out. The blade is ruined on the first attempt.

How does it differ from a segmented blade?

A segmented blade has gaps for cooling air - it cuts fast but leaves a chipped edge. A continuous rim cuts more slowly but gives a smooth, chip-free cut. On stone and ceramic the cut face stays visible and cannot be repaired.

Which materials does it cut?

Granite, marble and concrete - hard mineral materials where cut quality matters. Typical uses are natural stone slabs, sills, porcelain tile and wet work on a tile saw.

Will it fit my machine?

The blade is 110 mm with a 20 mm bore - the standard for wet tile saws in this class. A different spindle diameter needs a reducing ring. Confirm your machine does not exceed 13,880 rpm.

What does 80 m/s mean?

The maximum rim speed the blade body is engineered for - at 110 mm diameter that corresponds to 13,880 rpm. It is a safety limit: above it, centrifugal force exceeds the design.

What does the water actually do?

Two things at once: it cools the rim and flushes the slurry out of the cut. If the water stops, temperature spikes immediately - which is why the feed is watched continuously rather than checked occasionally.

What protective equipment is needed?

Eye protection, gloves and hearing protection - the symbols are printed on the blade itself. Cutting stone releases silica dust the moment the water stops, so the water feed is a safety measure as much as a technical one.
