Makita 4350FCT Jigsaw, 720 W, 135 mm

The Makita 4350FCT is a mains-powered jigsaw rated at 720 W with a maximum cutting depth of 135 mm in wood. It is a professional-class machine built for curved cuts, internal cut-outs and breaking down wood, metal and plastic.

Stroke and orbital action

Stroke length is 26 mm - longer than the usual 18 - 20 mm in this class, which means faster progress and less heat in the blade on thick material. Orbital action is set in three stages plus straight cutting: straight gives the cleanest edge, while the highest stage cuts fastest at the cost of edge quality.

Constant speed under load

Speed adjusts smoothly across 800 - 2800 strokes per minute, and constant speed electronics hold the set value when the blade meets resistance. That matters in metal and hardwood, where falling speed leads to binding and a broken blade.

Tool-free blade change

The holder uses a tool-free lock - the blade changes with one movement, without a hex key. On work that alternates between wood and metal blades, that saves noticeable time. A built-in LED light aims light directly at the cut line.

Bevel

The shoe tilts for angled cuts in both directions, allowing chamfers and fitting parts into sloping surfaces. Working at an angle the stroke stays the same but the usable cutting depth falls - worth checking before breaking down thick material on the bevel.

Capacity and ergonomics

In steel the saw cuts to 10 mm and in aluminium to 20 mm. It weighs 2.5 kg and the handle carries a rubber coating for a stable grip. Sound pressure is 87 dB(A) and vibration when cutting sheet metal 4.5 m/s².

Who it is for

Saws in this class are used by furniture makers, joiners, kitchen and fit-out installers and building crews. Mains power makes sense where the machine works for long spells in one place - in a workshop or breaking down a run of parts, where batteries would mean frequent changes.

Questions and Answers

What is the maximum thickness it cuts?

Up to 135 mm in wood, 10 mm in steel and 20 mm in aluminium. The wood figure is among the highest in its class and comes from the long 26 mm stroke. At that thickness, though, the blade must be long enough and the cut made without side pressure, or the cut will wander out of square.

What is orbital action for?

With orbital action the blade does not just move up and down but describes an ellipse and bites more aggressively. A higher stage cuts considerably faster but leaves a rougher edge. For a clean cut - on visible parts and laminated panels - work in straight mode with no orbit.

How is the blade changed?

Tool-free, with one movement of the lever and no hex key. The machine takes standard T-shank blades, the most widely available type, offered for wood, metal, plastic and ceramics.

What do the constant speed electronics do?

They monitor load and increase power when the blade meets resistance, so the set speed is held. Without that, speed drops in hard material, the blade starts to bind and the risk of breaking it rises.

Can a vacuum be connected?

Yes, a dust extraction nozzle is part of the standard equipment. It matters particularly when cutting MDF and laminated panels, since that dust is fine, spreads quickly and also makes the cut line harder to follow.

What is the anti-splintering device for?

It is a plastic insert fitted into the shoe close around the blade, supporting the fibres on both sides of the cut. On laminated panels and veneer that is the difference between a clean edge and a torn top layer.

Why mains powered rather than cordless?

A mains saw does not stop for battery changes and holds full power throughout. That makes sense for sustained work in one place - in a workshop or breaking down a run of parts. For short jobs on site a cordless machine remains more convenient.
