Hawera Power LX Plus SDS-plus Concrete Drill Bit, 8 x 200/265 mm, 266599

Hawera 266599 is a hammer drill bit from the Power LX Plus range with an SDS-plus shank, 8 mm diameter, a working length of 200 mm and an overall length of 265 mm. It is made for rotary hammers running in hammer-and-rotation mode and is used in concrete, reinforced concrete, brick and stone. Eight millimetres is the classic size for an 8 mm anchor, and 200 mm of working length is enough to go through a brick wall or through insulation into the load-bearing substrate.

Four-cutter head

The carbide head carries four cutting edges. When the bit meets rebar, at least one edge is always in contact with the steel, so the bit keeps cutting instead of jamming and snapping. That is exactly where a conventional two-cutter bit fails in reinforced concrete, and why four-cutter heads have become the standard for load-bearing fixings.

Centring tip and dust removal

A sharp centring tip bites on first contact and guides the hole from the start, instead of letting the bit wander across the surface. The shape of the head combined with large, short flutes clears dust quickly, and the four-start helix keeps the removal even along the whole working length. Less dust in the hole means less friction, less heat and longer carbide life.

SDS-plus shank

The SDS-plus shank fits without a key and without tightening: push it into the chuck until it clicks. It lets the bit slide a few millimetres lengthwise, so the piston's blow reaches the tip directly rather than being absorbed by the chuck. The bit works in every rotary hammer with an SDS-plus chuck, whatever the brand, and is not intended for an ordinary percussion drill.

A note on the length figures

In Hawera's catalogue article 266599 is listed as 8 x 265 x 200 mm - 265 mm overall and 200 mm usable. The 65 mm difference is the SDS-plus shank together with the transition into the helix.
