Full carbide head with four cutters

The head of the 7X range is made from a single piece of carbide - not two brazed plates, but one solid part - and it has four cutting edges instead of the usual two. That matters in reinforced concrete: a two-cutter bit jams when it hits rebar and eventually breaks, while the four edges of the solid head punch through the steel with no need to stop, re-target or change bits.

Service life

Bosch states up to 3x longer life than the Bosch SDS plus-3 drill bit. Two things are behind that: the carbide itself, made with Bosch Carbide Technology, and the special welding process that joins the head to the body - the point at which a hammer drill bit most often fails under load.

Flute and dust removal

The body carries a helical flute that clears dust out of the hole. Withdrawing the bit periodically on deep holes helps the flute do its job, and a cooler bit keeps its carbide edge longer.

Applications

Drilling reinforced concrete, concrete, natural stone and masonry - anchors, plugs, chemical anchors, suspended ceilings, electrical installations and plumbing runs. The bit is for hammer mode only; drilling concrete without percussion simply wears the carbide away to no purpose.
