DWE492DUO2 is a pair of mains angle grinders: the large DWE492 for 230 mm discs with a 2200 W motor, and the small DWE4157 for 125 mm discs with a 900 W motor. Both use an M14 spindle.

Why two rather than one

A single grinder is always a compromise. A 230 mm machine cuts 100 mm section and rebar in one pass, but it is heavy, fits nowhere and is dangerous for small work. A 125 mm machine is held in one hand, reaches between sections and dresses welds, but lacks the depth for thick stock. Crews working in metal buy both anyway - this pair simply supplies them together.

DWE492 - the large machine

2200 W at 6,500 rpm for a 230 mm disc. It weighs 5.1 kg - a two-handed machine for cutting sections, pipe and rebar and for rough dressing of welds. Cutting depth with a 230 mm disc reaches about 70 mm, which covers nearly everything in steel fabrication.

DWE4157 - the small machine

900 W at up to 11,800 rpm for a 125 mm disc. It weighs 2.05 kg - about 2.5 times lighter than the large one. This is the tool for cutting tiles, cleaning up seams, taking off rust and working in tight spaces where the big machine simply will not go.

A shared M14 spindle

Both machines take an M14 thread. In practice that means the nuts, flanges and spanners are the same - no need to carry two sets in the bag. The discs are not interchangeable, though: 230 mm will not fit the small machine, and a 125 mm disc on the large one turns too slowly for its size.

Mains powered

Both are corded. For long spells of cutting metal that remains an advantage over cordless: no pack runs out mid-cut, and there is no drop in speed towards the end of a charge.
