DeWalt FLEXTORQ Drill Drive Set, 32 Pieces, DT70741T-QZ
DeWalt DT70741T-QZ is a 32-piece drilling and driving set made up of EXTREME FLEXTORQ bits, three hex-shank drill bits, a magnetic holder and an 8 mm nut driver, laid out in a tough case.
The torsion zone - why FLEXTORQ exists
FLEXTORQ bits have a built-in torsion zone - a deliberately weakened section between tip and shank. With an impact driver, torque does not arrive smoothly but as a rapid series of blows. Without a torsion zone each of those spikes reaches the tip directly and breaks it; with one, the zone twists elastically and absorbs the blow, springing back between impulses. That is the difference in bit life under power driving - and it shows most clearly on Torx and Pozidriv fasteners, where the tip is slender.
What the set contains
- 12 Pozidriv 25 mm bits: PZ1, 8 x PZ2, 3 x PZ3
- 2 Phillips 25 mm bits: PH2, PH3
- 1 slotted 25 mm bit: SL6
- 7 Torx 25 mm bits: T15, 2 x T20, 2 x T25, 2 x T30
- 3 Pozidriv 57 mm bits: 2 x PZ2, 1 x PZ3
- 1 Pozidriv 89 mm bit: PZ2
- 1 Phillips 89 mm bit: PH2
- 1 cleanable 8 mm nut driver
- 1 magnetic bit holder with torsion zone
- 3 hex-shank drill bits: 5, 6 and 8 mm
Why so many PZ2
Eight of the twelve short Pozidriv bits are PZ2 - and that is not an oversight in the selection. PZ2 is the profile on the great majority of wood and plasterboard screws in European construction, so it wears out many times faster than any other. A set with one bit per profile runs out exactly when the PZ2 goes blunt; with eight of them, the work continues.
Three lengths for three situations
25 mm is the standard length for use in a holder. 57 mm and 89 mm come into their own when the screw head sits down a recess - in a hole, between studs, in the corner of a box - where a short bit in a holder simply does not reach. Long bits are also more forgiving of slight misalignment, because the length itself allows some flex.
Hex-shank drill bits
The three drill bits (5, 6 and 8 mm) have a hex shank rather than a round one. That means they go straight into the bit holder or into an impact driver, with no change of tool. The practical consequence during installation: drill the hole and drive the screw immediately, with a two-second bit change instead of unclamping a chuck.
The case
The set comes in a tough case compatible with the TSTAK system via the caddy and the large case in the range. Every bit has its own slot, which means a missing bit is visible at a glance - the simplest defence against a set scattering across the job.
