DeWalt DT50060-QZ is a set of five drill taps in M4, M5, M6, M8 and M10, with a 1/4" hex shank made for an impact driver. Each tool is three in one: it drills the hole, cuts the thread and countersinks - in a single pass.

Three operations in one tool

The usual route to a tapped hole is three separate tools and three changes: a drill for the pilot hole, a tap for the thread and a countersink for the chamfer. On these tools the tip drills, the middle section taps, and the upper section countersinks and clears the burr. The gain is not only time: it also removes the pilot-hole diameter error - the most common cause of a snapped tap or a thread that will not hold.

Why a 1/4" hex shank

The shank is a 1/4" hex, so the tool goes straight into an impact driver or a bit holder. Traditional tapping with a hand wrench takes feel and time; an impact driver does the same job in seconds. The shank is Impact Ready - hardened to absorb the sharp impulses that break ordinary shanks.

The tip

The tip uses a speed geometry that penetrates the material quickly and does not walk across the surface on starting. With an impact driver that matters: the machine does not give a gentle start, and an ordinary drill point would skate sideways before it bit.

Which materials

The tools are intended for metal and plastics. Typical applications are threads in sheet steel, metal sections, brackets and cabinets, fixing hangers and cable routes - anywhere threads are cut on site rather than in a workshop.

Choosing the size

The set covers M4 to M10 - the range that takes in most installation work. The pitch is metric standard, right-hand thread. Material thickness matters: for a thread to carry load you need at least two or three turns engaged, so in thin sheet the larger sizes cut cleanly but carry nothing.

Working with them

Keep the tool perpendicular to the surface - misalignment is the main cause of breakage. Do not stop halfway: one continuous pass produces a cleaner thread than several stops. In thicker metal, use cutting lubricant - it lowers the temperature and multiplies the tool's life. Withdraw in reverse under power, without pulling.
