DeWALT DCD794NT-XJ Cordless Brushless Drill Driver, 18V XR

The DCD794NT is the most compact drill driver on DeWALT's 18V XR platform. Its body is only 150 mm long, yet it delivers up to 74 Nm of torque – a combination that lets it work between joists, inside cabinets and in consumer units without swapping to a smaller tool. This article ships as a bare tool, with no battery and no charger, in a TSTAK case, and runs on any 18V XR battery you already own.

Brushless motor and two speeds

A brushless motor has no carbon brushes to wear out and stall the tool mid-job. It returns more work per charge, extends tool life and makes the short body possible. The all-metal two-speed transmission splits the work clearly: low gear supplies the torque for long screws and large diameters, high gear takes the speed up to 2,000 rpm for fast drilling in timber and metal.

Control over fastening

The clutch collar offers 15 settings. Once dialled in, the tool drives every following screw to the same depth – the difference between a tidy run of screws in plasterboard and sheared heads or crushed board. The keyless chuck changes bits one-handed, and the LED in the foot of the tool lights the work point from below, exactly where the body of the machine would otherwise cast a shadow: inside a cabinet, overhead, behind a pipe.
