The trimmer is equipped with a brushless motor located directly above the cutting head for efficient power transmission. Operation can be adjusted to the task at hand via two idle speed modes: 6,000 rpm at high speed and 4,500 rpm at low speed. The Makita DUR194ZX3 supports several cutting solutions. For tougher vegetation, an 8-tooth metal blade with a cutting width of 200 mm can be used. For standard grass trimming, a nylon head with a cutting width of 280 mm and a compatible line diameter of 1.65-2.0 mm is provided. A plastic blade with a working width of 230 mm is also available for general use. The spindle is M10 x 1.25 LH.

The model features a closed D-shaped handle, also described as a loop handle, with a redesigned front grip for better maneuverability. The straight shaft makes it easy to reach around flower beds, fences, and other obstacles. Features include an electric brake for quick stopping, soft start, constant speed under load, reverse for clearing tangles, and an electronic current limiter for overload protection.

Thanks to its low noise levels, ranging from 73.5 to 75.8 dB(A), the trimmer is suitable for use in residential areas. The XPT design ensures increased dust and water resistance in more demanding conditions.
